Default Why are we encouraging deer to cross at the interstate?

    Words fail me.

    http://www.webpronews.com/donna-the-...re-for-2012-10

"“My frustration is that Minnesota and North Dakota departments of transportation would allow these deer crossings to be in such high-traffic areas,” said Donna. “I mean, I’ve even seen them on the interstates. Why are we encouraging deer to cross at the interstate? I don’t get it…”

"The government can guide deer to lower traffic areas" (Face palm)

    Seriously.

This ranks right up there with the lady that scolded hunters for taking deer, when they could buy their meat from a store where no animals were harmed in it's manufacture.

It makes sense putting them at school crossings. Then the children can pet the deer and learn about nature.

Matt, you cannot pet wild deer or feed them.
    My children are my legacy.

Just be facetious, like this story.

I know which is why you got the smiley face.

On my honeymoon many years ago we were at a place where the deer was toooo used to human contact. Married a few days and one approached my husband and I was terrified I was about to become a widow. Nothing happened. whew lol

It was a well played hoax. I don't think the radio jocks ever thought it would get so big. Funny part is that there are people dumb enough to say that stuff, I guess that is why it is believable.

My wife and I went winter camping at Yosemite long before we got married.
I was cooking breakfast one morning and three deer walked right into camp and started eating right off my picnic table. I did break the rules and hand feed them. They had no fear of humans. I was told later that the deer sometimes hurt people when the stop feeding them.

A couple of springs ago I was fishing around the edges of a 100 acre pond. It was quite and cool about 5:30 in the evening.
As I was enjoying the peace and quite, I turned around and there was spotted fawn within 5 feet of me. Had absolutely no fear of me. Whenever I had a rifle, they run . Quickly.

Most of the deer I know are illiterate and say they are not encouraged by these crossing signs because they can’t read them. Also, I know a couple of bucks who claim they’ll cross any damn place they want to and the government can go tongue a salt lick for all they care.

It's a sign that I can type faster than I can think.

By the way, most of the deer I know are quite conservative, except for that whole NRA thing, and don't do kinky; on the other hoof, my moose buddies...

LOL. Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play? Deer here in W Pa are like flies. Makes for fun driving, especially early in the morning.

I remember about 10 years ago reading in the news that someone who had just recently moved to Clarksville called 911 because there were deer in her yard Now, I've never heard of deer with malicious intents, but I suppose it is not out of the realm of possibility.

A deer ate most of my little garden in Hagerstown once. Other than that, I can't complain about them. Beside, the deer in Philly keep to Fairmount Park most days.

These days it's the rabbits that drive mrs. bullmikey crazy, which means it’s the damn bunnies that are driving her to drive me crazy. She keeps hinting that I should do something about the rabbits. I explain how I’ve tried to reason with the critters many times in the past but that they weren’t having any of it. Then she says a real man would know how to deal with a couple of hungry hares. Then I say if that's the case then she shudda married Elmer Fudd instead of me if she wanted her a real rabbit killing man for a husband. And it just went downhill from there.

So I got a bone to pick with them bunnies but deer are real sweethearts in my book; you just sprinkle a few dog hairs around the yard and they don’t come around anymore. That trick didn't impress the rabbits at all. When they got into mrs. bullmikey's bell peppers there was hell to pay. And it wasn't the damn bunnies had to pay it either.

Fencing around the veggies works. Make sure it's high enough so the little floppy eared darlings don't jump over it. Also there is something you can sprinkle in yr garden that repels them, think it's dried blood or bone meal or something like that. I changed over to flowers years ago which they don't seem to like, with just the two of us can't keep up with all that produce!
