It's unlikely it all will collapse at once, and if it does, your money won't be worth anything anyway. And if you are the winner of record and you die, I'm not sure the lottery is on the hook to pay off the rest. Take it all up front and manage it yourself. You can't possibly do worse than the government has managing their money.
Your lottery win if you are foolish enough to take it in installments over 30 years does automatically pass to your heirs! Damn they want me dead now how long would I last with that amount hanging around my neck?

And paid more in taxes and funded more services and programs than the 'percent of income' mouthbreathers pay for their 'services' in a decade.

That must have been one nice commission check.

Of course... you didn't sell those houses... Elizabeth Warren built the primordial Earth, the land and the houses and sold them.

The rest of the year was gravy!

But the peace of mind that comes with that sort of wealth is something to behold. I doubt his blood pressure ever registers more than 100/70.

I was driving home tonight listening to a news channel that was nothing but the Lottery, and asking people what they would do with that sort of wealth. And every person interviewed was rattling off all of the toys and trips they would buy but all I could picture for my self was the peace of mind and serenity that this one client has. That would do for me.

You are absolutely right. I was discussing with my client the drug problem one of my sons had at one time and blaming the availability of drugs in the public school system. And he said to me that it is worse in the best private schools because kids like his son could actually afford them which often made it a whole lot worse!

After doing some research on it, I think you may be right. But one thing that I ran across is that the government will tax your estate on the total remaining amount of your winnings, even though it has not yet been paid. So, if that is correct, your heirs will owe a boat load of money from something they have not yet collected. According to what I have read, people who have elected long term payments have been forced to take out very high insurance policies to cover themselves in the event that they die and leave their heirs with a huge estate payment before they ever receive the money. That sounds crazy to me, but I don't doubt it with our government and tax code.

The other anomaly is that each state has their own tax laws for how Lottery winning are taxed at the State level. Some take nothing at all, I think my State of Delaware is one, while other States take the tax just like normal income plus everything in between! But with that amount of money I think I could work something out.

After being hanged, disemboweled, beheaded and quartered there might be quite a few that ended up with a body part or two.

I ran out of things to do with the money after the 1st 50 millon. I guess the rest would go to charitable projects.

A nice incentive to play the lottery would be if government would allow the winners to take their money tax free. Since government sponsers the lottery and takes all of the profits from it, that would only seem a fair trade off. But government is greedy and wants as much as it can get from everyone, as it always does.

I'd buy Blandfood a new set of dentures and a years worth of seasoning. And buy SalisburyS a new commanders uniform with a medal on it. And donate to the Baltimore Sun to get some new moderators.

Other than that live life and see the world.

You also may want to buy a lifetime supply of tissues.
