Default Why is Joe Flacco a better QB at home? .......

article in sports illustrated takes a look at joe's dr jekyll and mr hyde routine ..............

nice example, with pics and illustrations of how joe is more comfortable hitting down field targets at home and dumps it off on the road .....

Break It Down: Why is Joe Flacco a better QB at home?

And, in a lot of ways, the situation is the same when looking at today’s topic: the baffling difference in Joe Flacco’s play in road games compared to at home. In five games this season in front of the Baltimore fans, Flacco is completing 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,612 yards, 10 TDs, three interceptions and a 108.3 QB rating; in six road games, he’s hit his passes at a 55.3 percent clip for 1,238 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions, with a 70.2 QB rating.

What is causing the change? This week’s “Break It Down” attempts to figure that out …

OriginalColtsFan said he has noticed the differences of Cam's play calling on the road vs. at home and that is the reason for Flacco's struggles on the road. What are the differences he has noticed? He won't tell anyone.

    Thumbs up

Great article - very interesting. It confirms what many suspect - and that is that it is some sort of confidence issue. He is good at home - ticks me off when we're on the road to no-end. You never, ever know what to expect when we're on the road. Hopefully he irons things out.

Thanks again for sharing the article.

Sports Illustrated was trying to reach OCF for his insight when writing the article but couldn't get a hold of him. Pity.

    lol, .....

seriously, I would like to get film study's take on this article and maybe his opinion on some other plays ......

the basic premise is that on the same plays with similar pressure, joe takes the down field option more often at home than on the road where he favors the safety value or dump off ......

That is not funny. OCF holds the keys to fixing this offense. You making wise cracks like this isn't going to make him divulge this top secret info any faster. I wonder if Ozzie could get it out of him. You don't happen to have Ozzie's number, do you?

The good thing about this year is we just may get the second seed in the AFC. If the Pats beat the Texans, the afc championship game will be in Baltimore. Flacco plays well at home, as we all know, but he always plays well against the Pats. I think he gets extra pumped up going against Brady.

Houston would have to lose another game as well as against the Pats. By virtue of their win against the Ravens they own the tiebreaker and are already one game ahead of the Ravens. They need to lose 2 more games than the Ravens do the rest of the way.

yea, its hard to see a scenario where the ravens don't have to go through houston to get to the superbowl unless the pats go in there first and knock them off in the second round ......

Which is the exact scenario RavingManiac was suggesting. It seems reasonable that the Pats could knock off the Texans with the way the Texan defense is playing lately. Our schedule is still too difficult to have the 2 seed anywhere near locked up though.

Maybe the Colts can beat them in one of the two games they have with the Texans? Especially the home game at Indy.

No doubt that second seed is going to be tough to hold on to with the likes of NYG and Broncos left on the schedule.

It's something I've been meaning to look at more on Game Rewind... but off the top of my head, I don't know that I see other teams around the league where the snap in shotgun is as easy as it is to anticipate as when the Ravens are on the road. You can see opposing pass rushers starting right with or even slightly ahead of the snap pretty often, because Birk's head announces it's coming... and the timing seems pretty consistent. Maybe it's just a perception thing, but I have a hard time believing that it doesn't help the pass rushers a bit... couple it with the crowd noise.
