Good games all around this weekend.

1A - Dunbar looked really strong, but I do think they ran the score up. The game was never close and with a fake punt being up 19-0 with 6 minutes was a little much.

2A - Middletown looked really strong again. They manhandled a much more athletic team.

3A - RH just gets it done. Very balanced RH team this year and no real superstars.

4A - Did not expect this close of a game, but it was a slugfest. Glad to see Wise get one. I am sure there will be more to come.

Correct me if I am wrong but none of the teams in the finals were a spread team. I believe all of them were run heavy offenses. I like seeing that. I cannot stand the spread offense. Till next year.

Did Middletown's starting QB get hurt halfway through the season or something?

They had same QB all year. Junior Tim Pirrone. Middletown would not have won that game today if he did not play as well as he did. He deserves a lot of credit for the victory.

Too bad we don't have a final four to determine the true state champion. I know that's logistically impossible but I feel that way at the end of every season.

River Hill, but I think it's very close between all four teams. Dunbar has the most talent, Wise has the size, Middletown is well coached but my money would be on RH.

The eye test. I saw all the teams with my own two eyes, and I formed an opinion about the quality of each team I saw. IMO, the River Hill team I saw last night was not as good as the Quince Orchard team I saw tonight.

If you can't see that Quince Orchard greatly improved as the season progressed then I don't know what to say to you.

River Hill beat Long Reach 52-16 in week 1
Long Reach beat Atholton 13-12 in week 3
Atholton had no freaking chance against River Hill

Huntingtown lost to a Westlake team that Urbana crushed in week 1, yet River Hill only beats H-town by four?? Using the transitive property to explain scores in football is how heavy favorites end up losing to "inferior" teams.

You're right, using pretzel logic and mathematical properties doesn't predict football games. Neither does watching a single game on television (I am also guilty of that one). I just wanted to hear why you think QO beats RH. I guess its because they "greatly improved".

I would have to say just about every high school program improves over the season, barring injuries and organizational breakdowns. You're right, Westlake beat Htown 14-7 during the season, then Htown beats them down 29-7 in the playoffs. That is a huge swing. I'd say they "greatly improved". Now QO did beat an explosive Westminster team, but as is stated on this blog repeatedly, pass-first teams don't necessarily make it out of November. You can ask Arundel about that one. I don't think QO has an exclusive lock on improvement.

Why else do you think QO beats RH? In the last two state championships QO had the lead and lost it. In the second half QO was outscored in those two games 35-14. RH on the other hand outscored their opponents 39-7. RH coaching makes the game time adjustments to win.

Since 2006, HoCo has had 7 teams in the state finals, and came out with 5 victories. MoCo has had 3 victories over that same time (not sure how many appearances). Not bad for a county that only has 12 public high schools versus 26 in MoCo.

QO is a very good team and program, no disputing that. Just seems silly to me to hear someone say that a team that just lost a state championship can beat a team that just won a state championship. Seems RH is the target of that quite a bit. They should be proud being the team that most other teams compare themselves to.

Just looking out for my HoCo brethren.

You have to seed 4A Wise vs. 1A Dunbar and 3A River Hill vs. 2A Middletown.

2 very interesting games and too close to call from what I saw in the championships the last few days. I'd have to lean toward a Wise vs. River Hill championship but any matchup between these four would be interesting.
