    Default 4th and 29

    Whattup Fellas.

You are invited to visit my humble breakdown of The Play, complete with pics and diagrams, at a new blog that I've started called "4th and 29." In honor of what I feel is the pivotal play of the pivotal game of the season, that will catapult us forward towards destiny, I did this, feeling like this moment of Ravens excellence should live on and be part of our identity like the Immaculate Reception is part of Pitt's.

I'll also put my Enemy Scouting Reports on this blog, (with occasional pics, which I cannot do here) as well as a new idea I have called "Fact Check," which will re-visit my game scouting to see if what I determined was relevant in the games. Hey, I'm all for self-accountability.

    The address: http://4thand29.blogspot.com/2012/11/lets-break-down-play.html .

The general blog address is 4thand29.blogspot.com

Wonderful analysis of the play...especially the nugget about Rice having run back kicks until his coaches felt he was too valuable. When you look at it, the play does look more like a ST return than a pass play...

RR made the mental adjustment while the SD defenders did not.

On Showtime's "Inside the NFL", RR just walked through the play from his perspective...much of it has been discussed already. However, one thing he said was that he saw Eric Wettle closing but also saw Q coming. He determined that if he turned upfield, he would be setting up Q's block - the THUNDEROUS block. If he continued toward the sideline, the block, if made, would be clearly in the back.

There were no good options on 4th and 29, but the ball in the hands of a playmaker means it isn't over until the final whistile blows.

Classea5: That is an honor, sir. I will try to do it justice!

O.G. O.C.: Thanks man--I like our chances at home against a McGahee-less Bronco team. Especially with Ray returning. By the way, I am open to any suggestions/feedback you'd have about the blog. Always good to have sharp sources contributing.

Peej: Good insight. I will check into the INFL episode. I am still very amazed at how precise the block was--incredible. For Ray to even spot it, when he didn't necessarily see Weddle, is remarkable. Oh, and thanks for peeping the blog.

Well, I for one wouldn't object to some gratuitous shots of scantily clad cheerleaders in embarrassing, compromising positions.

    Just suggestin...

I have to second that. Play analysis is one thing, but...I think there is something in Title 9 that makes it mandatory to present the female side of sports. Just sayin'...

I am sure he saw everyone - that is what a Pro Bowl running back does!

In my earlier response, I meant to clarify that what is better: throwing the ball deep into a crowd (with the statistical probability that the ball will fall incomplete) or designing the play to clear out the middle and give Ray Rice the ball where he can cut upfield, assess the location of the defenders and make his moves accordingly.

Of course, according to several of our fellow fans, the "elite" QB throws the ball into the crowd! The winning QB picks the target he trusts to have the best chance to succeed.

Hey Fellas, the post about why Q's block is legal is now live.
