Default ESPN Article on U of M

U of M is a public school funded by taxpayers. Shouldn't the public have some input on major decisions? - Like changing conferences? Whole situation over there is just a money grab to cover up incompetence....

Incompentence definitely led MD into the B1G, but it was the incompentence of Yow, not the current admin. And the athletic dept. isn't funded by taxpayers.

    Agree 100%.

I hated this move when I first heard about it (longtime Terp fan) but now have come to accept and understand the move (still don't like it). I think the move had to happen in order to maintain the long-term success of our athletic programs.

Supposedly there was an NDA in place, so any public discussion of the offer would have led to the Big 10 cancelling the deal. I'm not sure why that was necessary, but whatever. It definitely seemed to be an "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" type of situation.

The athletic budget itself isn't funderd by taxpayers but without the taxpayers there is no stadium or arena in which to play. Therefore, any discussion should involve the largest interested party - MD. taxpayers. If this was the right thing to do it wouldn't have been so secret. I think there is plenty of blame to go around at College Park - definitely Yow and possibly some of the current hires...you never really find out what is going on until an admin leaves and everyone is free to talk. ha ha
