Default O's rumors: Major interest in LaRoche and Butler

Stark quotes front office type saying O's are hard after LaRoche while Bob dutton of KC Star says and O's and M's hard in talks with KC for Butler but KC asking for Bundy from us and F Hernandez from Sea. Hey it's early Dec why not ask for the moon if you're KC?

Royals officials "seemed to characterize Seattle as a fall-back option," writes Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, because Kansas City seeks a difference-maker rather than unproven prospects. Dutton suggests the Orioles are "an even tougher match."

Well, I've heard that before. I think the Butler rumor is fading almost as soon as it started. Hopefully Laroche is a good defensive 1B.

Britt Ghiroli and Steve Melewski both threw cold water on the LaRoche rumors, the O's aren't really in on LaRoche. These are just typical rumors from the Winter Meetings, the O's won't end up with any of the big names they are linked to (Hamilton, LaRoche, Butler etc..). They will end up settling for cheap alternatives and try to convince us that those additions will help this team remain competitive. It worked last year no chance they will be that lucky again this coming season.

You do realize LaRoche just won a Gold Glove right? Shame on you if you didn't know that LOL.

No I didnt bother to check. Its good news for the O's then, which really need good D to offset our average lineup and rotation. Assuming the O's give the best offer.

He would be a good addition but the O's aren't really "in" on him, it's a typical Winter Meetings rumor. It has become a Winter Meetings tradition to link the O's to every big name free agent every year.

    I'm really sad about that.
LaRoche seems like the kind of guy that fits the O's on and off the field.
Butler is a phenomenal bat, but he's not Bundy level, and he's not really what the O's need.

That's in part because it is so obvious that we need a big bat and power hitting 1st baseman who can sit in the middle of the order. It's been obvious for about 13 years so reporters, being the smart people that they are report on the obvious match between a prince fielder and the O's.

unless the O's give up Bundy or Gausman, Butler isn't coming here. The Royals want MLB ready pitching to compete now. Those are the only players in the O's org that are on par with Butler.

LaRoche seems out of reach as well. He wants 3 yrs, DC is offering 2. So PGA will need to add the 3rd year. Then he will need to outbid DC with more money than (by their own admission) they could afford to pay Reynolds. I don't see that happening. The Nats are spoken of as a WS contender. The O's are spoken of as a possible playoff contender.

Probable WS team > Possible playoff team

I know this is just talk, but it's the same talk players use to make their decisions. if you're LaRoche do you go to the probable NL WS team, for more money, or do you take a cut in pay and join a team that may make the playoffs.

you never know what's true and what's just posturing/talk. but it looks like the O's will be digging for the inexpensive, unexpected impact player. I'm cool with that, it worked last year. DD either got lucky in 2012, or the guy knows how to compete on a budget.

Please stop the reference to the O's as a possible playoff team for 2013. I've already rendered my prediction for 84 - 78 and that's only good enough for third in the AL East.
