Default Raises Approved For Anne Arundel County Police

Raises approved for Anne Arundel County police

Anne Arundel County councilmen approved on Monday the first raise for county workers in more than four years.

The council unanimously granted a 3 percent pay increase for more than 550 officers who belong to the Fraternal Order of Police, as well as for an additional 1,000 employees in another union whose contract included a "me, too" clause entitling its members to raises if another bargaining unit received them.

The county was forced to give the $1.6 million worth of raises, retroactive to July 1, after the Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the police union in a labor dispute.

Anne Arundel County is fortunate to have a first rate Police Department. For the most part they are law enforcement professionals that try to do their very best in the many diverse, adverse and down right hostile situations they can find themselves in. I was impressed with the level of cooperation by officers in recent investigations of wrong doing and the trust they placed in the public to have their back as they spoke truth to power in public hearings. Because of this I would support this well deserved raise even without the court action. Great Job Officers! Thank You.

But, as for the County Executive, not so fortunate.

The County is taking the appropriate steps to remedy this most unfortunate choice of the voters.

LMAO, no. When they screw up I be the first to say it. When they do good I'll also be the first to say it. I think it's been a pretty good year for them. Not so much for command. But I think everyone else weathered that internal storm well and did the right thing. Good for them!

Notice it's AA county police and not Baltimore.
