Default Welcome to the Arab Summer

Revolutions unfold over the course of years, not days or months. We're clearly in a new phase in terms of the so-called Arab Spring. Leaving aside what can only be described as a civil war in Syria we have witnessed popular uprisings/revolts against Islamic inspired violence in Libya and Pakistan and are now seeing an increasingly determined opposition to what many feel is a naked power grab by Egypt's current president. It remains unclear how this will ultimately turn out but we keep seeing concerted efforts by the Muslim world's more secular and moderate population to assert themselves.

In addition to the popular protests and partial judicial revolt in Egypt we are looking at a media strike and increasing challenges to the legitimacy of the Morsi government.

The Arabs love a good dictator. Will be interesting to see which direction Morsi goes from here.

If I was to guess, I would say crackdown with blame directed towards Israel. Hopefully I'm wrong.

"It remains unclear how this will ultimately turn out but we keep seeing concerted efforts by the Muslim world's more secular and moderate population to assert themselves." Joy in Mudville

Unfortunately for those more secular and moderate folks in Egypt who started the revolution, it was stolen by the more robust and organized Muslim Brothers. I'm afraid this is who we have really been supporting in the M.E. all along whether we knew it or not. The Pentagon is stepping up their own spy network in the M.E. One that will compete with CIA's network. Something tells me the WH is starting to worry about who they may have been supporting in Libya, Egypt and now Syria if rumors are true about sending Libyan weapons to Syria. Now Turkey is getting Patriot missiles to protect themselves from Syria and Putin is not happy. Very scary times we live in.
