Default Harford county man pays back child support to keep 'hog,'

Rather than risk losing his motorcycle, a Havre de Grace man recently sold his home in order to make back child support payments, according to the Harford County State's Attorney's Office., which says the payment is one of the largest settlements ever received.

Jackie Ronald Lyons was dunned $62,039.75 in back child support payments by a judgment entered in Harford County Circuit Court on Aug. 15, according to electronic court records. The court likewise approved a garnishment order through Harford Bank

"We were about to seize the motorcycle when the house was sold, and we got the check from the title company and that is the way I interpreted it," State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly wrote Monday in an e-mail explaining what had transpired.
So the State's Attorney "interpreted" it that the man sold his house to save his "hog". I really doubt the guy saw the repo truck coming up the street and sold his house to save his bike. Houses don't sell that quick. He had to be in the process of selling his house before they came to get the bike. This SA must just like to glorify the story.

Either way it's good they got the money. Nobody should be allowed to owe that much for child support and still have the assests the say he had. Hopefully the child will see some (or all) of it but I don't know how that system works.

Wonder what his monthly payment was and how much did he make?

Here's a guy from Wisconsin who owed $90,000.00. The judge ordered him to stop screwing. Since he's a convicted felon, I'm not sure what his job prospects are like. The kids aren't likely to see any money in the near future.

I can't even begin to imagine how much this guy with 30 kids from Tennessee owes. He would struggle just to buy a postage stamp on the prison wages he makes.

I agree with you. The deed in the land records shows that the property is owned by Jackie Ronald Lyons Sr. and Jackie Ronald Lyons Jr. The assessment records haven't been updated yet to show the new owner.

Not a guarantee that the child(ren) will ever see the money though. The courts demand that the one parent pay up, but they do not seem too worried about where the money goes after it gets to the other parent.

True story: On occassion I would stop a driver who was suspended for child support violations. EVERY TIME I had a stop like that, it was the exact same day that the parent was going to pay the bill. It was such an interesting coincidence (NOTE HEAVY SARCASM) that the driver was JUST on his way to pay the bill when I caught him.
