Default Tim Geithner: Obama 'Absolutely' Prepared To Go Over Fiscal Cliff

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...6pLid%3D241828

WASHINGTON -- Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Wednesday that President Barack Obama’s administration is “absolutely” willing to go off the so-called fiscal cliff if Republicans refuse to increase taxes on the nation’s top earners.

During an interview with CNBC, Geithner was asked if the White House was willing to dive off the cliff if Republicans don’t accept a deal that raise tax rates for those making more than $250,000.

“Oh, absolutely," he responded. "Again, there's no prospect in an agreement that doesn't involve the rates going up on the top 2 percent of the wealthiest."

Geithner’s comments offer the strongest indication that Obama would accept the automatic spending cuts and tax rate increases that kick in if an agreement is not reached before the Dec. 31 deadline.
Oh Please...who didn't see this coming. Its been obvious since day one that Obama wants to dive off the fiscal cliff. Head first. He can't wait to do it.

The Republicans are trapped. If they don't agree to Obama's plan of keeping middle class taxes low and raising wealthy taxes, then everyone's taxes will go up. Why raise everyone's taxes when you don't have to?

Because those that want taxes to go up the most have no skin in the game. I won't mind my taxes going up so long as EVERYONE'S taxes go up. And that includes the 2% tax holiday for social security.

Then we will see just how much everyone enjoys Pres Obama's march toward socialism.

Has anyone ever stopped to consider that maybe we need to go off of this so-called cliff? I mean one way or another things have got to change in a big, big way. Why not do it cold turkey and get it over with?

Besides, it was probably the last thing both parties actually agreed to.

Psst. Hey Sage. The fiscal cliff involves massive cuts. Don't let that little fact get in the way of your rant.

And I hope, pray, and petition my Representative and Senators, that they do.

FAR, FAR, FAR better to take this hit, get the deficit under control, our national debt under control, and then "fix" the military sequestration to spread it out over 20-years.

In fact, I'm surprised you're not for it.
You do realize the sequestration cuts budgets of things you hate, like grants to local health clinics (which may or may not provide abortions), education for poor children, food to poor children, and housing for poor families. It also cuts budgets for every discretionary budget line, including: justice dept, FDA, transportation, etc, etc.

These are cuts I HATE, but... overall they're not terribly onerous when taken in conjunction with the military cuts (which would never otherwise happen), and tax increases.

Furthermore, after this new "baseline" has been set - why can't our so effective and practiced government see how this will affect our economy in reality, then make necessary adjustments.

With the budgetary headroom, they could:
    cut taxes on business
    cut taxes on investment
exchange benefit adjustments to Medicare for various tax incentives
    create an infrastructure bank
    increase food stamps
    increase unemployment insurance
increase funding to programs in a bi-partisan (LOLOLOL) manner. military, head start, food for children, etc.

I truly believe this is an amazing unintended opportunity to get our house in order, if they only treat it as such.

I honestly agree. The tax cuts were written to expire. Obama needs to let that happen.
I have written and called the White House to express that opinion. Not that they care.

Wow that's your response? You don't care how miserable their lives are? Wish it was you in that position, someone that wholeheartedly deserves it.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can state the obvious and attempt to act like they were the only ones who knew it and try to pretend you didn't know it. Its some kind of mental masturbation, must feel good.

That's wh I want to go over the fiscal cliff. I thinks its a great idea. But it wouldn't have to happen if Obama agreed to cuts along with tax increases, which so far he has not.

I am not an Obama supporter but the current version of the Republican party are about the biggest idiots on the planet as if they continue to refuse to raise the tax on the wealthiest Amercians, they are playing right into Obama's hands and looking like they only care about rich people and the heck with everyone else! In other words they are committing political suicide for their already weak party.

This guys can't even agree that the sky is blue.

I expect that we'll go over the cliff...I'm not sure what the economy will look like when we do. It may be a complete mess or it may be, as someone stated, a ridiculous way to get the Federal Budget in order because the clowns in DC can't agree on...

& I am absolutely prepared to throw anyone---absolutely anyone---that uses, causes to be used, or otherwise sexually fondles or gratifies themselves with that term "fiscal cliff" off the nearest cliff of any kind.
