Wink FEMA is so much better run than ever . . .

The agency has come under fire from residents and elected leaders, including Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY)—who represents some of the hardest hit areas in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. He recently told the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that FEMA is not prepared to respond effectively to disasters, especially in urban areas.

"Hurricane Sandy should be a major wake-up call,” Nadler said. "When disaster strikes, our densely populated urban areas and economic centers must be able to recover quickly."

Default EXCLUSIVE: FEMA teams told to 'sightsee' as Sandy victims suffered Read more: http:/

That’s what first responders were left to do after being deployed by FEMA to assist in the storm-ravaged areas in the initial days after superstorm Sandy, FoxNews.com has learned. A FEMA worker who spoke to FoxNews.com described a chaotic scene at New Jersey's Fort Dix, where emergency workers arrived as the storm bore down on the Atlantic Coast. The worker said officials at the staging area were unprepared and told the incoming responders there was nothing for them to do for nearly four days.

“They told us to hurry, hurry, hurry," the worker, who works at the agency's headquarters in Washington and volunteered to deploy for the storm recovery effort. "We rushed to Fort Dix, only to find out that our liaison didn’t even know we were coming.”

While I'm sure the debate will be Bush FEMA vs Obama FEMA, at the end of the day, Americans don't want money spent to help Americans. It's pathetic.

Interestingly, he actually heaped praise on the agency in his testimony.

    Here's what he actually said...

"Although the emergency response agencies worked nonstop to get the city back up and running, there were gaps in the recovery operations, and there are many challenges that remain, particularly for a dense urban area like New York...

Although FEMA and the National Guard set up distribution centers around the city, in many cases people were unable to leave their apartments to pick up supplies and deliveries didn’t make it to every building...

Another particular challenge in New York is the lack of available hotels and rental units for displaced storm victims. FEMA has issued millions of dollars for transitional housing and temporary rental assistance, but vacancies are hard to find, and the reimbursement rates are often too low for whatever is available. FEMA is working hard to address these issues, but the lack of a viable long term housing plan is one of the biggest challenges we face going forward..."

By the way, when he used the term 'wake-up' call it was for investment in better infrastructure to deal with future storms.

The biggest criticism leveled at FEMA was that reimbursements are too slow in coming.

They voted for Nadler and Bobo, they got what they asked for.

"Although FEMA and the National Guard set up distribution centers around the city, in many cases people were unable to leave their apartments to pick up supplies and deliveries didn't make it to every building," Nadler said.

    Ah, so out it comes.

You wanted this to be true just because you are still howling for revenge after Bush's Katrina failure was exposed. You wanted Obama to fail so bad that when he succeeded instead, you went into shock. Now, Fox news is peddling the version you wanted to hear, so you return to it. Like a dog to its vomit, over and over again.

    That about right?

Stop lying, righties. This one got shot down right out of the gate, post #4.

Lied is a strong word. I'm not hesitant to call Faux a lier. In this case I think it is just plain old bias. They're playing up some of the shortcomings and taking a quote entirely out of context because it conforms to their worldview.

FEMA has not been perfect here at all but, it was a natural disaster. There are some things you can anticipate and there are going to be some things that take you by surprise. If you walked around Omaha beach at 645 am on June 6 you would say, 'what a complete and utter cluster f$%K'. By 130pm it had become one of the finest moments in U.S. military history.

Isn't "wake-up call" what they say after every disaster?

I think we learn with each and every disaster. Is it ever going to be 'business as usual' the day after a disaster????

    How did Bush fail?
He had help on the way the day before the storm hit. It was the LA and NO governments that failed.
