Default regents acknowledge violation of state's open meeting act

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/business...0,220280.story

University System of Maryland chancellor Brit Kirwan acknowledged Friday that the Board of Regents violated Maryland’s open meetings act by secretly convening to discuss the University of Maryland’s move to the Big Ten, but said the group was merely “confused” and “overlooked” its responsibility to inform the public of its plans.

“We feel quite chastened and regretful for not doing our duty,” he said. “We are determined to do better"
    No real shocker here

    From the link
Wow. I bet that will stop them form doing this again. Well, not really but it will waste some time and money.
Browning said the board should receive the strongest penalties under the law. “It’s a small fine, but it’s important to do that as a precedent,” he said. He also suggested that a judge consider nullifying the board’s actions at the meeting.
Ralph Jaffe, a former Baltimore County government teacher who filed a complaint with the open meetings board, declared the regents’ admission a “victory for the principles of ethics.”
Paulson said he could not discuss the issue because it is subject to an investigation by the Maryland Open Meetings Compliance Board, which will evaluate Jaffe’s complaint. The three-member board is independent from the attorney general’s office, although it is assisted by members of the office, Paulson said.
That compliance board will await a reply to Jaffe’s charges from the board of regents, then issue an opinion within 30 days. It holds no power to punish violators, but does actively work to ensure that they better understand the law and uphold it in the future.

    LOL. OK.

As I said....why do you care? That was the question. Must be that liberal arts education that has limited your ability to read/comprehend the question before you.

You caring means jack. The end result would still be the same.

    Money talks....

When the flagship state university's leaders engage in dishonesty and secrecy, circumventing state public notice/open-meeting laws, moving the flagship school to another conference, obligating the state to pay a $50 million exit fee, in exchange for the unscrutinized promise of greater $$$, then what message does this conduct send to current students and prospective students?

I'm ok with the move to B1G, but I think school officals should've abided by the process mandated by the state.

If I were Wallace Loh, I'd check those revenue projections again. Fox, which owns 49% of BTN, just failed to persuade Peter Angelos to sell MASN to New Corporation (Fox Sports). I'm sure it was Rupert Murdoch's goal to bundle MASN (O's and Nationals) with BTN in the mid-atlantic area for the purpose of extracting greater revenues fom the cable and satellite providers.

New Corporation was more successful in the New York market, acquiring a 49& interest in the YES netowrk (Yankees and Nets). The deal was transacted about one week prior to RU's invitation to join B1G.

I pay Verizon a little more than $200/month for the Triple Play. If I could unbundle the programming, I would. Unbundled programming is the future. In the meantime, the LA Times claims that consumers are crying foul over the rising cost of sports programming:

I'm glad I'm not a slave to tv sports. I'd kill my self if I was paying $200 a month to Comcast. I love my comcast internet, but that's all the money they get from me

It's a small price to pay to keep everyone happy. But, yes, if I could unbundle, I would drop BTN, New England Sports Network, SportsNet New York, CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports Network, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were subsidizing some sports programming at Comcast. Of course, they aren't going to disclose it.
