Default 2012 All Metro Football Team, Thoughts?

Well this time of the year the board always gives their thoughts on the Teams. First off, congrats to all the young men. It's an honor and something you will always remember. That being said, Matt Tilley doesn't make All Metro? Baltimore Sun, you should be ashamed! Matt Tilley should have been in the conversation for defensive POY but he doesn't even make 2nd team? Horrible!!

I guess the area coaches that the Sun's writers consulted didn't think he was worth your hype. My question is how Shane Cockerille made 1st team QB if Kern from Westminster was OPOY. Kern is unquestionably the 1st team QB. Cockerille was at best a second team QB if not honorable mention.

I am, however, glad they put at least 5 OL and 4 DL on the 1st and 2nd teams.

Cockerille should have been first team. Best offensive player on by far the best team in the area. It's a travesty that Ukandu was 2nd team. He will probably make All State, as well as Tilley. The sun just stinks.

There were 2 second team QB's picked so I'm guessing that Cockerville was the second 1st team QB. The Sun didn't deviate from it's "To the victor goes the spoils" philosophy. The really good players on mediocre teams don't stand much of a chance unless they have already been offererd a scholarship.

Yeah, GA misread - Cockerille did make the first-team. They just decided to name 2 1st team QBs I think Cockerille deserves to be on the first team but I would've called him an Athlete

Although some of what you said is true, Gilman without a doubt got jobbed. I'm for picking the best players regardless but their should have been at least 4 other Gilman players that should have made the teams. Tilley was by far the best safety in the state with I believe 10 INTS and MULTIPLE defensive TD's. Wyatt Dickerson doesn't make a team? That's horrible. I also believed the 9th grader Ellison Jordan should have made a team but I understand why he didn't. His time will come.

I wasn't just referring to Gilman. For RH to have 10% of total selectee's between 1st and 2nd team sounds a little high to me. I'm sure all the kids selected had great seasons but as is usually the case there are plenty of deserving players that get overlooked either because they play on teams that are mediocre or maybe even because they play on teams that are loaded. We actually agree on this.

We have always said that someone at the Sun works at River Hill. Looks like it wasn't just a joke.

There were other players that were snubbed as well. Kyle Levere from CHC doesn't make 2nd team at the very least? He was easily their best player this year. I wonder if the sun staff even watched any games this year.

Levere should at least be 2nd team, he really impressed me at the BTC game on Saturday. He was named the game MVP.

What do you mean nominated for 2nd team? How can someone be nominated by for 2nd team? Are you saying that coaches nominate players for actual teams. Isn't evey player that played a candidate to make All Metro?

As far as 2 defensive POY's, this has been done before. Both players were deserving to win, so I believe they did the right thing.

My apologies for not being gramatically correct. Simply put, Kyle Levere did make 2nd team All Metro for Offense.

In response to your Defense POY's there are many deserving to win awards but there is only one winner. Thats why we have 1st place and 2nd, not 1 and 1B. But we are both open to our opinion hopefully yours is not bias due to your Gilman allegiance.

I didn't see Levere on the second team, something must be wrong with my link.

No, I truly believe that Kiser and Poggi were both worthy of winning the award. They both were pretty dominate. Poggi had 30 tackles for losses, thus unheard of! Kiser averaged double figures in tackles a game on a defense that had playmakers everywhere. I know the State voters will give Fuller defensive POY award but he didn't have a better year on defense than either Poggi or Kiser.

Who makes the nominations, each team's coach or an independent group? Who ultimately selects the All State Team?

I believe it's the same group of media that votes on the state poll that handle the nominations and the selection of the All State team. I know the media vote on the All State team, but I might be wrong about the nominations though, I'm sure JMT will clear up anything I got wrong.

It's not unheard of actually, Grosss broke the state record that was previously owned by Horace Miller of Dunbar(who also had over 30 sacks). It's also his second straight year with at least 30 sacks. But we have to take in consideration the level of competition. We see what happen when Dunbar played CHC and CHC had a WEAK OL.

Don't get me wrong, Gross is a big time talent! He has a very high ceiling and I expect him to do BIG things in the next few years at WVU. Will more than likely have to redshirt and put on some weight.
