What happened to the Senators?

DC lost 2 Senators teams, 1960 and 1971! DC couldn't get an expansion National League team, so then Mayor Williams got MLB to move the Expos in a bunch of backroom deals. Almost lost that team too had the city council not passed a deal to fund Natonals Park. Angelos gave up blocking the Expos move in exchange for creating MASN which has the O's and Nats TV rights.

Even more racist was the fact that the Redskins organization was the last in the NFL to integrate their roster and only did so in 1961 so they could play in DC (now known as RFK) Stadium and only because Congress forced them to do so as shown in the NY Times article. Bobby Mitchell played with the Redskins for several years and then was relegated to a mostly ceremonial Assistant General Manager position with the team for over 20 years after that. DC Stadium was a to borrow a term from AllBallFan Fedeally "Welfare Funded Stadium" where DC United still plays soccer in that dump.

Yes, that is true. I can still remember watching that game with my brother-in-law who is a Skins fan. I think we lost something like 7-3 or 10-3, I really don't remember the score but I know it was low - and went on to win the SB.
