Lol...yeah, not my most logical post ever.
Like others, I am torn on this a little bit. However, all things considered, I just don't think this is a bad move for a team that is (hopefully) trying to improve. I just don't have confidence that he is going to be substantially different than he was last year.
I'm sorry to see him go. He had a rough time, defensively and offensively, the first part of last season, but the move to first base led to great improvement. (Yes, I think that if a player is struggling defensively, it can affect his offense, and vice versa.) I'm not that concerned about K's; they're better than GIDP's, and he got his share of walks. I look for a bounceback year in 2013. Cutting down on K's may have cost him HR's, but I think he was adjusting in the second half of the season so that his power numbers were returning. My personal theory is that DD is making an ego move to show that he's boss by releasing a productive, popular -but not dominating- player.
PS Hector, I think his warts had something to do with being separated at birth
from Vlad. Just sayin'![]()
6 million still way too much for Reynolds...I cant believe all these comments about defense...Its 1st base!!!!!! He hit below .230, that doesnt cut it!
I was never a fan of Andino even as a utility guy but I was a fan of Reynolds at first. Not just for his own play but for the chemistry the infield had after Machado came up, they were dynamite. Hopefully Davis who was touted as an above average defensive First Baseman can regain his previous form at First. He is certainly athletic enough and played a very reasonable right field when Markakis went down.
I think DD is asserting his power here because he cavalierly refused
to have any contact with the player or his agent, at least as far as I know.
To come back to the O's, Reynolds would have had to come crawling back
after being rebuffed by other clubs. What DD did may end up helping the O's,
and I hope it does, but the style was not collaborative. I'm just speculating, of
course, from circumstantial evidence. That's what the Hot Stove League is all about.
I was just curious. I didn't get that sense, so your comment really intrigued me.
I wonder if it's tough to let a payer go when they are happy to be with the club and the team seems happy with him. I wonder if there's any emotion involved.
JJ Hardy said he thinks MR would have come back here for less money. I'm not sure if he meant less money than his option year $$ or less money than Cleveland gave him.
Not realistic to expect MR to give the same performance but it is realistic to expect the BP, McLouth, Davis and all the other scrubs to repeat what they did last season?? MR at least had a decent track record of hitting homers and driving in runs the previous few years, some of the “repeats” you guys are depending on had a track record of failure. I would expect Reynolds to bounce back to his NORMAL HR and RBI numbers before I believe any of the other rejects can repeat what they did in a miraculous season last year.
The BP had a track record. Davis is too young to have had a track record, but his homer production was on par with past season and minor league production. He wasn't dominant, he was just good, and he still struck out a lot.
McLouth is a former AS who lost his way.
Reynolds will probably return to his former production - which is more valuable to the Indians than the O's. They have team strikeout problem, and they had to address it one way or another.
On the other hand, the Indians need a power bat and a good 1b glove, and can afford to absorb the strikeouts.
I will not argue with you on Gayrod, I could never stand that bastard and still don’t. I didn’t like it when the Yankees first got him and hated it even more when they actually extended his contract, those were idiotic moves 100%.
But you do realize that Swisher is no longer a Yankee, right??
Because your players are cheaper, right up Angelos’ alley, how exactly does that make you a winner?? I think the only one that wins in that scenario is Mr. Angelos and he will gladly accept fans like you who continue to put big bucks in his pocket while he continues to field an inferior team hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, ala last year.
As far as me posting somewhere else because nobody here cares what I say, that is nothing new there have been people on here trying to get rid of me for years and still here I am. Many old posters have disappeared over the years, including more recently Mr Travis Moon, but I stay on here because I will express my opinion on a PUBLIC (not exclusively Orioles) forum and not be chased away by a bunch of cry babies, so your opinion of me or my team doesn’t matter one bit!!![]()
