Report: Change coming to Ravens coaching staff

Posted by Mike Florio on December 10, 2012, 9:20 AM EST

Monday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show opened up with a potential bombshell regarding a likely playoff team.

Dan Patrick said that a change could be coming to John Harbaugh’s coaching staff in Baltimore.

Immediate speculation will center on offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. But the failure of the defense to hold a lead could get defensive coordinator Dean Pees in hot water. (Or, at a minimum, 98.6-degree liquid.) And special-teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg could be feeling a little nervous this morning after his punt team allowed the Redskins to get in position to score the game-winning field goal.

Dan says to stay tuned. So we will.

Numerous reports that Caldwell is in fact replacing Cameron. Won't help with all the injuries on D

Really? An OC has nothing to do with injuries on D? Wow. Thanks for that insight. It really helps explain a lot.

Caldwell has never been a coordinator. This smacks of desperation big time and doesn't seem like a Ravens kind of move.

So if they do this then they'll probably stick with him. This means that the Ravens will not pursue a proven NFL OC like Turner or Wisenhunt. Makes me kinda ill.

    LOL

    1. These ARE desperate times, and desperate times call for desperate measures.

    2. The logic that "Caldwell was never a coordinator" is weak. HARBAUGH was never a coordinator, and he got promoted to HC. (Not that that's necessarily a good thing, just that it happens.) Furthermore, Caldwell was a head coach, which, the last time I checked, actually ranks higher than a coordinator. And finally, Caldwell spent years with one of the best QBs to ever suit up, and I guarantee he learned a thing or two.

    3. I'm not sold on Turner.

I would be shocked as I said if the Ravens make a move. Considering what the Ravens did on offense yesterday. With three games left there is little a new coordinator on either side of the ball can do. The smart move considering that chances are we still win the AFC North or at least get the playoffs is to wait.

Wait until the season is over and conduct a top to bottom review. I've been for firing both Cameron and Pees since mid season. But I just don't see the point. It is rare that firings in mid season do any good not to mention doing it at the end of the season. Doesn't seem like Bisciotti's style.

Imagine if the 7-7 Giants hit the panic button last year and fired Coughlin and Perry F how well they would have done. Balt-i-morans your 9-4 and 2 up in the division with injured players.

Better yet...imagine if the Ravens had fired Cam Cameron 2 years ago, when they should have, and allowed a real good OC to work with Joe these past 2 years.

Total BS, IMO. There's a TON that can still be done heading into the final 3 games and the post season. Ramp up the offense that Joe is most comfortable with; get the damn communication problems ironed out; get the plays in FASTER; and get the positive confidence and momentum moving in the right direction. It would be the best move the Ravens have made in a long, long time. I think fans are so used to them doing NOTHING significant, that it can't even cross your threshold that that's exactly what NEEDS to be done right now.

It's done but nothing is going to change. I've played and coached football. The talent is what it is on the OL in particular. There is a reason why it takes time to instill new plays into a playbook. Even if Caldwell uses more plays in the playbook they haven't run them. It isn't as simple as just putting a new guy in and suddenly everything changes. If that were the case we'd see this all the time. I'm happy Cam is gone but not pleased with the process. I certainly don't want Caldwell being our OC next season when better proven guys will be on the market. A team that wants to win now or soon wll/should go with established leadership in the OC and DC positions IMO.

Exactly. You know he's coming. And so do I. We will be in contact when the shoes drop. I would welcome his input for draftable players. On both sides of the ball.

LOL @ Andy Reid -- another gutless play not to lose loser if ever there were one!
