    Default Bmore Area Basketball

I figured I'd start a thread since nobody else has. The season is in full swing and a lot has happened already.

I watched St. Frances and Princeton Day play tonight as Aquille Carr and Anton Waters returned to the area with Princeton Day. St. Frances pulled it out as Dwayne Morgan had a big game. It's a shame he won't be playing for my Knights this year because he lived up to his hype tonight. In a game loaded with D-1 talent he was the best player on the floor even though he's been playing hurt. Aquille was off tonight but I'm sure it was tough for Princeton Day to play back to back games after losing to the no. 1 team in the country, Huntington Prep, yesterday.

The city league had a bad showing on Sat. with Dunbar losing to Coolidge and Lake losing to Roosevelt both of D.C. City and Edmondson look like strong contenders in the city and the game to see right now in the area is Mount St. Joe vs. St. Frances.

MSJ winning the Gonzaga tourney was a big deal. It tells me that Pallotti is legit! They barely lost to Sidwell Friends and handles MSJ.

CHC, led by Wesley Blackwell & Sean Mayberry, beat Gilman tonight. 'Nuff said!

I heard it was a good game. Gilman is young and not in Bball shape. Too many players that came straight from the football field. They will be fine but they are two years away from being very very good.

I agree. There are a lot of good teams around here and I was surprised that the D.C. teams beat us for the first time that I can remember. Dunbar losing to Coolidge really was a shocker.

I would have gone to see Gilman Calvert Hall if it wasn't for Princeton Day and St. Frances. Unlike football there are a lot of good matchups between city, private and county teams. Loyola even played Pikesville tonight.

I saw the MSJ/Sidwell Friends game on my computer. Sidwell Friends is a damn good team that really could've beat MSJ but they missed some shots down the stretch and had a costly turnover late.

I've watched Milford's first two games (wins over Western Tech & Broadneck) and I really don't like what I'm seeing. The talent is definitely there but this team doesn't defend the 3-point shot very well. They also seem to have ruts of sloppy play and bad decision making on offense. They'll need to clean that up tomorrow night with 4A Title contender Bowie coming into "The Jungle".

You are almost as bad as AO when he whines about the private school practice advantage. Recite "Excuses" to yourself 5X. Btw, what happened to that Gilman freshman that supposedly will be one of the best kids in the country in 2016.

You're talking about Winchester, he was starting but I heard he didn't yesterday. He's #22, and he's the real deal. He is generally considered with Khalil Richards from St. Frances as the top 2 ninth graders in the city.

The team has no identity and that's a coaching issue. Daly is a solid coach but I have said on here before that he needs to grow as a coach. Gilman has a great coach at the school in Eddie Green but he's on the JV staff.

You can't seriously think that a team with multiple football players can come right off the football field and be a great basketball team. Does CHC have any football players on the team this year? Not to mention the fact that CHC had a SERIOUS HEIGHT advantage. You got Mayberry playing PG now, hell he is about as tall as almost everyone on Gilman's team.

Erik Evans and Lawrence Cager both played Varsity Football

Wow Spalding beat MSJ. Are they overrated or is basketball that good around here? I guess we'll see.

The BCL is that competitive......especially this year. People don't understand how hard that league is.

Now we're gonna start the private vs. public debate in basketball but the city league has been tougher than the MIAA over the last few years. I might have to agree with you this year though especially with Dunbar losing to Coolidge but a few things still have to shake out before I say how tough the MIAA is.

I thought Spalding was a good team last year and it looks like they're building on it. Everyone knows about Booth and Williams on St. Joe but how how good are they in the paint? I've seen St. Frances twice and with Morgan (another City defector) coming on they might be the best team in the area.

St. Frances issue will be coaching. I think he's getting better though but last year he was pretty bad. But make no mistake, they are loaded! I think they are definitely the most talented team in the Area.

MSJ big man Long transferred to Oakland Mills and that seems to really hurt them this year. Big kids in their losses have killed them. If Booth or Wiliams have an off night, they are in trouble.

You're confusing me saying that tougher=better and that's not what I'm saying. The BCL is tougher in my opinion because of the home and home format. And GA is correct, Long transferring to Oakland Mills has hurt MSJ. He was their enforcer down low. The current bigs on their roster are both works in progress. Its a long season though. Its not how you start but how you finish.

Actually I don't think I was confused about what you said at all. I just think the city league was tougher and better than the MIAA the last few years. But I wasn't trying to debate with you either, I said the MIAA might be tougher and better than the city league this year given the way things have started. Others out there might not know how tough the MIAA is but I definitely do.

It looks like it might have been premature in ranking MSJ no. 1 if they are a work in progress. Like I said I'll have to wait to see how things shake out a little bit before I really judge them.

Bowie knocked off Milford tonight 60-55. Milford played without Justin Jenifer who is out with a ankle injury. For as talented as Milford is, they struggle to score points which is mind boggling.

Big game tomorrow night as the Harrison twins from Texas come here to play St. Frances at Loyola. This is a must see game for me.
