I based my opinion about Largo based on the team that I saw at last year's Academy against Lake Clifton. They must have graduated a lot of talent to be 5-5 at this point in the season. On another note, I hope the event remains at Morgan and is not switched to a local HS like last year.

You would never think that Wlawn and Rtown used to come in town and beat the city teams regularly not too long ago, but MM has taken the mantle. I would rather see Dulaney than Woodlawn this year, but I think they owed Wlawn a spot because they haven't been in it recently. Any word on what Kent County has.
When have Baltimore County schools regularly beat City schools? I was in college from '85 to '90 so it might have happened then but you're acting as if the Rams & Warriors ran roughshod over the Poets, Lakers, Red Storm, etc...

I'm sure Largo is back based on last year. It's sometimes tough to predict how some of these teams will turn out when the schedule is being made. It does say that the schedule is tentative though and I have seen games in the Academy get switched around before.

Early 2000's when Rivers was at Rtown and Green was at Wlawn, they routinely went to the Academy and won their matchups vs city schools for years. Then they would battle the top city schools for their respective region titles. Parkville would get wins too with Norris at the helm. Milford was down until Holley got there from Wlawn and they haven't lost in the county since. It's up to them to rep BCounty this time around with a win over Edmondson.

City beat Lake 53-38. Solid game by City but Lake is definitely down this year.

This is the part of the Academy that they seem to get ride. There seem to be less ego involved on the girls side. Maybe I'm wrong.

Default SFA rolls in the End

CHC led SFA 11-10 after the 1st quarter and 26-24 at the half by running a methodical half-court offense and hitting the open 3 pointer. On defense Coach Bauersfeld had his team in a 1-3-1 zone that kept SFA from throwing the ball down low to Maurice White and Tevon Saddler.

The Cardinals went away from their first half strategy and got run out of the gym in the second half. The Panthers dominated the boards and forced fast breaks after multiple CHC turnovers in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

There was also a long break in the second half when SFA sophomore forward, Joshua Ayemi fell to the floor after a hard foul with what looked like a severe shoulder injury. He was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. Hope he's ok.

SFA won by about 13 pts. CHC is in a serious free fall. If Dwayne Morgan had played they would have lost by 30 at least.

City beat Forest Park 71-66. City got out to a big lead only to have Forest Park come back with a 29 pt. 2nd qtr. They played even in the 3rd but City outscored FP in the 4th to pull out the win.

The girls' matchups look really good.
City vs Potomac will be a good game. Potomac is better than a lot of people think.

    12/8 - Coolidge 69, Dunbar Bmore 59 (Dunbar's only loss)
12/20 - Findlay Prep 73, Coolidge 63 (Findlay Prep undefeated and nationally ranked)
    1/12 - Potomac 62, Coolidge 54

Potomac also has a 15 point win over a tough St. John's from the WCAC.

I know Potomac was expected to be good coming into the season but I knew they took a couple of early season losses. That Coolidge win is impressive and I think they'll give City a good game and are really the favorite. I just thought there should be a MIAA team in the academy this year.

City beat Digital Harbor 73-47. This game was close for the entire 1st half but City dominated the 2nd half and ran away with it.

St Frances beat MSJ 61-48. SFA dominated the boards tonight and played outstanding defense on Kam Williams and Phil Booth.

I fully expect these teams to play 2 more times.

I'll be watching that Milford Mill Edmondson game closely next weekend. City is gonna get a good look at another 3a contender in Potomac next weekend. Then we get Edmondson, Dunbar and Poly all at home after playing Patterson on the road. It's gonna be an interesting finish.

I hope the good Milford shows up against Edmondson. The bad Milford showed up against Perry Hall the other night and it almost cost them. After the Edmondson game, only the Feb 2nd contest against Dulaney stands between Milford and a berth in the County Championship game for a 5th straight year.

Baltimore County only has 3 quality teams this year.....four if you count New Town.

    Default Absolute Travesty!

All the anticipation of the Basketball Academy and today was a major dud. It started when the teams from the south couldn't get here because of the snow. This led to a scramble for games and we ended up with Woodlawn vs. Patterson, Lake vs. Edmondson and City vs. Dunbar. First off Patterson crushed Woodlawn in a very uneventful game and then the drama started. Starting with the Lake Edmondson game this was the worst officiating I've ever seen. Lake was beating Edmondson for 3 1/2 qtrs only to have Edmondson come back. Then an already bad officiated game got much worse and robbed the fans of a game that could have come down to the last possession. It was so bad that Lake's coach took his team off the court with 20 seconds left in the game.

Then came City Dunbar where the officials were just as bad as the Lake Edmondson game. The game was close until the last minute when two phantom calls turned a one possession game into a Dunbar win.

A very sad day for local basketball. I talked to Bob Wade after the game and I know he's not too happy with what happened. Most of all I feel bad for the kids on City and Lake who played their hearts out.
