You read it here first:
Peter Franchot will not run for Governor in 2014.
He will be a candidate for re-election as State Comptroller.

And how about a more descriptive title?
Thanks.

Polling must've been horrible.
Anthony Brown's gonna be governor...
Pretty much...
Dem fight fi Jamaican guvnor mon!
Bummer. He's one of the only MD Democrats that would get my vote. Maybe Brown.
Brown > O'Malley who I hope gets sucked into oblivion once he loses the nomination.
Anthony Brown appears to be a smart guy, and he had a very respectable military career which is more than O'Malley ever accomplished in his life. Unfortunately he chose to become a lawyer :-/
Lt. Governor of Maryland is a pretty meaningless job, although I'd be curious to know how Brown has done with Maryland's BRAC plan. Most of his his other political accomplishments don't seem particularly noteworthy.
This was expected even if the announcement is rather early. Franchot really had little or no after backing the losing side in the last election and losing the support of his own party in the process.
Yes. I do not think that he has or will have the support of the Democrat Party for that and for not being a "team player" on taxes and spending issues. While I agree with him on some of those issues, I think the public stance he took hurt his chances of ever winning enough intra~party support to mount a successful run for governor against the "establishment" Democrat candidate(s).
I agree. Maryland Comptrollers over the last 50+ years have been fiscally conservative and pretty independent. Franchot has used the same playbook as his predecessors.
