It's about not being forced to do either.

A fee payer can choose to join a union.

    There are called union dues.

Are you talking about private or public employment in MD?

That's fine - except the deadbeats want the same benefits unions negotiate through collective bargaining. Everybody wants someone else to pay.

OldBay, has anyone yet posted in support of your union views concerning the work place? As in lax and liberal? So far I have only seen posters who support by experience with unions.

You and I seem to be comparing apples and oranges. My experience is with public sector unions, not private sector.

Non union members have no choice in that. Where does that law come from?

Are you employed by the state or by a private business?

    What difference does it make?

State law in MD requires all employees to receive the same benefits negotiated through collective bargaining. Other states have their own laws, but I'm unaware of one that provides negotiated benefits only to union members.

Prediction: The pro-Obama, Democrat voting Union will soon require all of their members to wear a Union pin or patch on the job, so that non-union workers can be easily identified for harassment. Be it threats and bullying; having their cars keyed, their tires slashed; to physical assaults when no one is looking.

If you work for the state of MD, you are not forced to join a union. Your paystub may say union dues - because payroll does not have a separate entry for fees payers. If you never signed a union card, you are not a member of a union.

    Again:

    Fees-payers = non-members

    Dues payers = members

When I drove a public transportation bus in San Antonio, a condition of employment was joined the union. The first day of work the union steward gave me the rules straight up. Follow them or I'd be gone. They had more power than the company when it came to disciplining an employee. And yes I worked for private sector unions as well. I saw no difference except Public sector unions can't strike. Without the ability to strike they really have no collective bargaining power.

Well then blame the state law, not the employees who just want a job without getting involved with unions.

Was it public or a company - you stated both. In MD state gov't, union membership is a tiny minority and there are no separate "rules".

Its really the lack of binding arbitration that makes collective bargaining worth so little.

Seems we are getting schooled on how MD public worker unions operate. It's good information.
