I actually think Ngata took a discount to stay. With that said, in my opinion usually players who are loved and appreciated by the city are ones that take hometown discounts. I know you are a Flacco supporter so not talking about you, but about 98% of posts and callers on sports radio are not. Why give them a discount and not be appreciated. Look at Philly and what happened since they have run Donovan out of town.

The defense gives up scores in last 2 minutes against Steelers and Skins, but its Flacco's fault I will say, I believe Flacco plays best with pressure on him and rarely plays two poor games in a row.

I believe Joe plays best at an up tempo pace, which isn't necessarily saying that he plays best when the pressure is on. But I don't think he wilts under pressure either. The bottom line for me is that at this point, I think it might just be best for Joe and the Ravens to part company and get fresh starts. In that case, I do believe Joe will fare better without the Ravens than the Ravens will fare without Joe. He's been the lightning rod/scapegoat all year, and if I were a conspiracy theorist, I might be inclined to believe it was semi-intentional, to try to drive his bargaining leverage down.

Joe: Hey Steve, I know I have been very inconsistent this season. I love it here and I want to be a Raven for life. I also do NOT want to put my team in a very bad salary CAP position. I want the team to be able to sign the best free agents over the next decade. So give me 10 years at $9M per year with as much as possible up front. That's more money than my entire family can spend for generations. Let's win many championships together. Deal?
I don't give any of my clients a "hometown" discount. I certainly would not expect Joe Flacco to.

Did anyone on this forum tell their employer they'll take less money for the good of the company?

So the logic goes, since the team made a mistake by overpaying those other players they may as well do the same with Flacco and make their cap situation even worse?

With that being said of course he's not obligated to give the team a hometown discount but if he's seriously interested in winning than that may be something he should at least consider.

    1. The logic goes that the Ravens created the cap space problem; it's not up to Joe to help them out of that problem by offering a "hometown discount".
    2. The Ravens have not shown that they even know HOW to put together a top flight NFL offense. Their defense is on the ropes -- they have no replacements for Ray Lewis or Ed Reed. They STILL hardly generate any pass rush. And so the notion that the Ravens will keep on winning -- as an incentive for Joe to stay here -- is weak, IMO.
