Default ESPN Analyst: Skins QB RGIII Not Really Black Since He Might Be Republican

“I want to find out about him. I don’t know, because I keep hearing these things. We all know he has a white fiancée. There was all this talk about he’s a Republican, which, there’s no information at all [about that],” Parker said. “I’m just trying to dig deeper as to why he has an issue."

During the Thursday edition of the ESPN show First Take, analyst Rob Parker injected racial issues into the game as he took a bitter swipe at Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, criticizing him for being engaged to a white woman and possibly being one of those evil, nasty Republicans.

“Is he a brother or a cornball brother?” Parker said. “He’s not really one of us. He’s kind of black, but he’s not really, like, the guy you want to hang out with.”

Parker’s ignorant rant came in response to statements made by Griffin in recent days about how he does not wish to be defined solely by his race. On Wednesday at a news conference, the quarterback said he was aware of the attention being focused on him because he is black but that he wanted to be more than just a great black QB.
So RGIII having a white fiancee and being Republican = "he has an issue"?

Sigh, just another race-baiting ignorant fool with a microphone.

    Griffen's classy response:

"For me, you don't ever want to be defined by the color of your skin,'' Griffin said on Wednesday, via Tom Corbett of USA Today Sports. "You want to be defined by your work ethic, the person that you are, your character, your personality. That's what I've tried to go out and do."
Curious as to the meaning of Rob Parker's statment:

“Well, he’s black, he kind of does his thing. But he’s not really down with the cause, he’s not one of us.”

    The cause?

    Parker disenfranchised Griffin.

He responded Wednesday to things that were said on Thursday? Damn, he's good.

Several hours after an ESPN commentator questioned whether Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is authentically black, ESPN said those comments were out of line. In a statement released by an ESPN spokesman, the network said, “The comments were inappropriate and we are evaluating our next steps.”

It will be interesting to see what those “next steps” are, and whether they lead to the commentator who made the comments, Rob Parker, to lose his job. When another ESPN commentator, Rush Limbaugh, made racially charged comments about another quarterback, Donovan McNabb, that ended up being the last day that Limbaugh appeared on ESPN’s NFL pregame show.
Do people get fired for stuff like that? It appears to have happened in the past.

Why is this a racist comment?

Rush did. His comments were somewhere along the lines of "McNabb isn't nearly as good as people say and the media is just hyping him up to see a black quarterback succeed." Basically, typical stupid Rush talk. McNabb was pretty awesome back then.

I don't see Parker getting fired.

So the order of the statement/response changes it classiness?

Or is it just your attempt at making irrelevance relevant?

Griffin made a statement about his ideas on race and being a "black QB" and was attacked by some race bating clown on ESPN, it doesn't matter if he said it before or after, except to you I guess.

    Whoa, there, Jeebus.

Your first post talked about Parker's comments on Thursday.

Then you made a second post immediately following your first where you talked about RG3's "classy response."

My first thought was that he was responding to Parker's comments, since that's the way you posted it.

    Lighten up, Francis.

RGIII is a great kid and will stay above the crap some people will bring up. Good for his parents for raising a respectful young man. ALL parents should raise their kids to be respectful

It doesn't strike me as racist, but what does what some nobody posts on a Facebook page have to do with a sports network commentator making questionable comments about the racial authenticity of an NFL player?

I mistakenly edited and used the word "response" instead of the word "statement."

Not enough to quibble over, at least I thought.

    Jeebus--

Yes. One should choose one's pianos carefully, because using the wrong piano in a sentence can cause confusion.

Oops, my bad. I used "piano" when I meant "word". I guess if someone were confused by me sentence, even momentarily, he would be a nit-picker if he pointed that out to me.

Anyway, can you image a sports commentator questioning the racial authenticity of a white player with a black fiancée and who voted Democrat?

I found it odd that Soledad O'Brien made the comment just before this woman came on that the word racist is being used way to often. And then the woman finished her interview by claiming the remark about her hair was racist in nature.

So, is the racist term being used on this commentator deserved?

Whoa, there, flyboy. Your link said nothing about Soledad O'Brien. What comment are you talking about?

Apparently he is also a Christian, so he may be getting some of the Tebow type criticism as well.

Unfortunately not every interview on the news media's have a link. The woman also appeared on MSNBC where the racist angle was naturally stepped up by Chris Matthews.

He is a great kid. I think his parents are military as well and it appears they did a great job raising him.

    flyboy--

Maybe not, but you need to make things more clear. Who is "the woman" who appeared on MSNBC? Ronda Lee? You haven't mentioned her by name in any of your posts.

And really, you are dragging us away from the topic at hand.
