If you intend to kill or wound any weapon will do.

The only difference is that a gun is more efficient and deadly in scenarios like this. If the Chinese perp had use a gun, there would have been more fatalities than wounded.

How about we try to keep politics out of both of these threads? Now is not the time to try to score political points.

Fair enough, but don't you think it would be a good idea to have a rational discussion and try to figure out what we can do to prevent these tragedies from occurring? Stating a tactical issue does not necessarily equate to politicizing.

"The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings ..."

It's a lot harder to get dynamite explosives than an assault weapon. Not to mention, should you happen to suddenly purchase a large quantity of fertilizer, you will likely get a visit from your local FBI agent.

    Try again...

Yes but now is not the time and to be honest this never seems to be the place where such rational discussions can happen.

Yes. One bombing at the murderer's farm. One bombing at the school. And one bombing in his car.

The bombing at the school killed 38 kids.

    Try again.

Then why say it... does it in any way make the Connecticut killings more acceptable?

Default There probably is nothing that can be done

to totally stop these kinds of things.
They occur at various places and times and with various victims -some of whom are chosen and some of whom just happen to be "in the wrong place at the wrong time".
Some of the killers are probably evil -to use a judgemental term. Some are mentally ill.
They use a variety of weapons, though most are guns of the semi-automatic variety. Machine guns are hard to get hold of (legally or illegally) and regular handguns and rifles are mere single shot and usually require some skill to hit someone. Some of the more intelligent or "sane" (which tends to mean evil planning before time) use explosives or gas or other weapons such as using a car as a "people mower" as that guy did a few years ago.
They usually don't announce their intent in any way, shape or form before they strike.

Here's a list of some (this is not a complete list of even all modern mass killings though it covers MOST of the big ones) :

    WORLD'S WORST MASS SHOOTINGS

A gunman at a Connecticut elementary school has killed 27 people, including 18 children - one of the world's worst mass shootings. Here are some others:

August 5 2012: Army veteran Wade Michael Page kills five men and one woman and wounds three other people, including a police officer, before taking his own life at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin outside Milwaukee.
July 20 2012: At least 12 people are killed when a gunman enters a cinema in Aurora, Colorado, releases a canister of gas and then opens fire during the opening night of the Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. James Holmes, a 24-year-old former graduate student at the University of Colorado, has been charged over the deaths.
March 11 2012: Sixteen Afghan villagers, including nine children, are killed during a pre-dawn attack. Army prosecutors have charged Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, 39.

I'm going to say a prayer for the victims and their families.

but you know what? They changed the law and you can no longer carry box cutter onto jet airliners. So we don't see continual airplanes crashing into skyscrapers.

Yes, it was making it illegal that saved all those airplanes. Not the additional security, the sharing of intelligence, etc. I'd be willing to bet that carrying a gun in school is illegal too. The difference is the measures we are willing to go to enforce laws that are already on the books.
