Aren't the majority of Americans church-going Christians? I think God should reconsider his decision to punish everyone on account of the non-believing minority (of which I'm a member).

Or better yet, Dobson and his fellow evangelicals should STFU.

No, it would not have happened. At least not on that day. Perhaps, the killer would have systematically acquired his own arsenal and stockpiled hundreds of rounds of ammo but maybe in doing so he would have drawn attention to himself. Or maybe he just would have channeled his frustration into something else.

Our society has major issues, there are guns, violent video games, etc in other countries but they are not this violent at least not modern societies.

I'm thinking of Canada, if you have ever been to Canada you know how personable and friendly most Canadians are, well the French Canadians can be a tad snooty but still compared to American's they are a joy to be around.
I think it is important to understand some facts here.

    1) Canada has much stricter gun laws than the United States, including a gun registry.

    2) There are not nearly as many guns in Canada as in the United States.

    3) If you look at industrialized nations we have the loosest gun regulations, the easiest access to guns and ammunition and, not surprisingly, we have exponentially more gun related deaths and injuries than any other industrialized country. Furthermore, we have had far more mass shootings than any other industrialized country in the world.

It is true that other nations have better health care systems and have better access to mental health care but the elephant in the room is the fact that we are awash in guns in this country.

    But we have more freedom.

Some do view a mass killing like this to be a "small price to pay for freedom."

I think most of us in this country disagree.

Your "Lord of the Manor" prohibits you from bringing your firearms into your government workplace, and you comply as part of your agreement to work for the Lord of the Manor, so that is a rather poor analogy.

If more mass shooting and violence counts as freedom, then yes, you're correct.

This country has an extremely violent culture. That's why there is so much more violence here than Canada. We could copy their gun laws and I guarantee the US would still by much, much more violent per capita.

Exactly it is not the laws it is a cultural problem that we have... all you have to do is travel to these other countries and the difference is noticeabe. A totally different mindset.

Ever since WWII this country has been destructive internally and externally. We've been in wars either by proxy or on the ground since the 1950's on our own soil and abroad.

And Newt Gingrich is in, later than the other right wing vultures, to sneer and gloat over dead children in the name of his God.

Of course. The problem is 100% on guns. Nevermind that we had vastly fewer gun laws in the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's yet very few of these mass shootings occurred. The Texas tower shooter was probably the first prominent one and he had a brain tumor. Anyone who casually rejects the possible negative influences from the internet, videos and movies in pushing fragile minds into violence, has their head in the sand. That we have practically campaigned against religion and traditional morality certainly hasn't helped either. But carry on with your faux outrage. The forum wouldn't be the same without it.

Really? Most of the ones I know are decent, honest, hard-working individuals who might be a bit too preachy for my tastes but nothing like the chattering heads that the MSM flocks to as their public mouthpieces, which they are not.
