RA Dickey to the Jays?

Imo, this is a bad move for the Jays - but I like the initiative.
Knuckleballers are violatile.
Still, I see what the Jays are thinking here.
They are starting pitching away from making a move in the AL East, and they don't need a total revamp, just a couple of guys.
If they get similar production out of him in '13, they will have committed a short term coup - but if D'Arnaud works out, they make have their next franchise player.
On the other hand, this is the type of move the Mets need to make.
The perpetual losing and poor development system should make this team desperate to get younger.

I love it, good luck having him duplicate last year in the AL East...The Blue Jays will be the biggest dissapointment in baseball this year, book it!! Reyes and JJ are overrated and always hurt...And Buerhle will get torched in the East! God i just wish the Os would get a cleanup hitter!!!!!!!!!!

Now that the details have been sorted....
overall, this isn't a horrible deal for the Mets, but it's a lot less than you would expect.
They also had to give up players with Dickey, which is kind of a surprise.

Toronto now has a surplus of pitching.
JJ, Dickey, Buerhle, Morrow, Drabek, Alvarez...and whomever else.
Who is their no 1? Who is their no 2?
I'm of the thought that it will be Dickey, Buerhle, JJ, Morrow, and Alvarez, unless Morrow and Drabek make pushes for up in the rotation and to get in it.
The big hole they have now is at closer, and I think they'll be able to figure out something.

Ben McDonald had a good season once. If he does what he did last season again, then I'll be convinced. Especially in the AL East

I haven't looked at his stats, but I hard he's had 2 or 3 good seasons in a row. obviously last year was his best. but you're right, the ALe is much tougher than the NLe.

I looked at his stats. 2009 was the first season he threw the knuckler. he tinkered with it in a few previous seasons, but '09 was the first season he started and finished as a knuckle ball thrower. and that's the year he started seeing amazingly better numbers and success. then he went to the Mets where he's continued to get better.

again, I think the ALe will be a bigger challenge for him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him have continued success, especially if he's moved to the #3 slot in the rotation.

Sounds pretty consistent, and he was on bad teams, which probably accounts for the record.

He threw 69 percent of his pitches for strikes - that's Cliff Lee level.

Also, he had a 1.71 with 4 wins in 6 games against other teams in the AL East.

Although he'll never come close to another Cy Young, the only way he gets lit up is if he loses the ability to throw his knuckler for strikes. Transferring to the AL with the DH will add .5 to .75 to the ERA and so he should be around 4.00 ERA. He will be a very useful number 2 or 3 starter for about three years before he fades away into Tim Wakefield Land (TWL).
