Default poor draft picks killing Ravens

Jimmy Smith benched today after getting beat by Decker
Oher get beat by speed rushers
    Reid can’t pass block
Cody can’t tackle and gets no push
    Kindle?
    Upshaw is OK
    Pierce is a good pick
    Osemele struggles with speed rushers

Get Real? The post brought up some excellent points. Ozzie's drafts since 2009 have been below average to poor. It is now catching up to the team. You can't give Ozzie and DeCosta a free pass. You miss on Oher, Kindle, Smith as first round draft picks. Can't happen!!!!!

Osemele overall a work in progress that will pan out.

    The others, valid.

Been saying he needs to retire for a while myself. He doesn't get the new speed of the game. Having additional draft picks doesn't mean quality but quantity to cut at the end.
Failure to address the DE position, receiver to compliment the slant route, OT position is glaring once again. If they trade up and stop hoarding picks would be a great place to start. But the coaching breakdowns or the opponents coaching staffs catching up seems even more evident. None of the units are clicking so clean house.

Thats why the Ravens need to blow this thing up after the season. The Ravens window has closed and their late round picks are playing like late round picks. They need to have a few poor seasons and rebuild slowly

I wasn't even aware Jimmy Smith played today. You're absolutely right about their drafts not providing the talent to overcome their losses in FA.Lose a quality starter, sign a scrub for cheap rinse wash and repeat.

Some of the vets whose salaries are bigger than their contributions on the field have to be let go.It seems like every offseason when FA starts they have no cap space to sign anyone and this team needs some new starters.

You're going to see a lot of Ravens SALARY hit the street this spring. I don't think that that's going to be a problem.

Don't be surprised to see Alex Smith in a Ravens uniform.

Flacco is average at best...but the owner wanted him so we are stuck with him.

If the Ravens hesitate too long he will be in another uni other then ours. If Flacco holds them hostage beyond the grace period leading into fee agency, they will be stuck with paying Flacco. There are other teams in the market. Ozzie needs to talk fast and stop *****footing around. There's no other way to say or do it. "Look Joe", "We like you", "This the offer", "You have until three days before F?A to take it. "WE could franchise you but we need the cap space". "Do want to remain here and prove we made the choice or would prefer to test your market". "But we will not commit elite money for unfinished business".

Since 2009 Newsome/DeCosta have made a series of busts as their top pick. Upshaw the jury is till out. Oher-major disappointment, Kindle bust, Smith bust. Cody bust. We are now paying the price.

upshaw and smith will be very good.

Cody is a bust. Kindle is a never was. Reid is going to be a bust, he can't move his feet well enough to play guard, much less tackle.

The Ravens learned in the first three seasons that Oher was very good at RT, and very ordinary as a LT.

The big mistake the Ravens was not bringing back Grubbs, it was not finding anyone to play LT. Osemele is decent at RT and would probably be very good at LG. Need to move Oher back to RT next year and find someone to play LT.

I have seen nothing from Smith to give me hope. An earlier post said he was benched today. Jerry Coleman or Cerratto after the game said he was acting like he doesn't care in the locker room, while Graham and Reed were visibly upset.

At least Upshaw is showing signs of potential. Seems like every week he makes a play or two somewhere along the way that stands out.

The Kindle and Cody picks in 2010 really hurt. Kindle was a zero, and Cody's just inconsistent.

LB in general has been a disaster in the draft recently. Since '08 they've only taken 4 of them in the draft, Gooden, Phillips, Kindle, and Upshaw. Upshaw's shown some flashes this year, not bad for a rookie. Gooden, Kindle, and Phillips were basically zeros. McClain has never been much in run support, and Ellerbee's never had any clue in pass coverage. Neither one of them are above average NFL LBs.

Back to Upshaw... most of the "plus" performance he's putting together from time to time now comes out of a hybrid DE role. So he's not really excelling as a classic interior LB, which the Ravens so desperately need. I don't know that he has the quickness to ever be that either, but who knows.

Glad they did pick Kruger and Pitta especially Pitta. In talking about busts you guys forgot Dickson.

Playoffs 5 years in a row. Never saw that with your boy Billick. Actually, they only made playoffs twice in a row once during his tenure.

Ozzie tries to project with certain players on the offense. He drafts them way higher than convention alwisdom dictates.
