Default Is Jimmy Smith a bust?

The guy is at the end of his second season and hasn't done a thing besides get hurt and get smoked by receivers. What do you all think?

I think he's got a lot to prove in the next couple games. I've already heard rumors that Carey Williams may not be back next year. We'll see.

I believe the only defensive backs that are safe for 2013 is Webb and Pollard. Everybody else may not be here next year.

Our current starting corners make me wistfully long for the days of Chris McCallister and Samari Rolle.

I think he plays well in spurts. That being said, When you have a freelancing safety in Reed, your bound to appear burnt by the scheme they play. Reed appears not to have a roll in plays that involve him in the secondary for pass coverage. It's blitz and guess what they may do against us on every down. Webb covered that fact up with his stellar play. Once gone we see corners on an island with no help in pass rush or over the top. The two don't matchup. Bent/snapped/broken ankles are bound to happen with Reed guessing wrong most of the time of late. You need all out hurry him up get rid the ball to lessen the time the corners have to cover a speedy wideout. Add the fact that Smith had a major injury and needs to regroup his technique says we are in trouble in the secondary if they can't get to an accurate/quick release/move in the pocket style qb.

I don't understand why we have this need to designate young players a bust, especially since we hardly have a gang of promising athletes at the position being crowded out. Has he come on as a great back out of the gate? Certainly not. Does that mean he never will? I see no reason to believe that. CB is a really difficult position, maybe the most difficult in the NFL, and there is much to learn, a lot of it only learnable by experience. Give the kid a chance. Everyone was in a big hurry to write Kruger off two years ago, and now he's one of the best players.

He turned down a 15 million dollar contract extension at the start of the season

He might make a gooid safety as he plays safety when he plays CB by being off the receiver so far back., He and Williams are so far back that the 5 to 7 yard pass is always open and the double move is used at least once agame on them. If Reed likes to play the run so much, put him up on the WR and play Smith deep. At least Reed would not be burned again trying to "fake" the QB out.lol

Kruger the best, whoa Nelly. He is better but the reason he is better is because Suggs is playing. Krueger looked lost in the start of the year.

maybe. he has really struggled against good wr's but still hasn't played two full years. He was all over the field in the playoffs last year.

Why do you want Williams gone? He has turned himself into a pretty good corner. Everyone gets beat, and gets balls caught on them. I think if you look at his body of work this year, he has played pretty well and will command a nice contract in the off season. 6'2" corners that are actually good, are hard to find.

Wait what. What games have you watched? His interceptions have him being in the right spot(usually 15 yards behind the WR) and getting the early jump on a deflected pass. He can not cover

I wonder a lot if some of the people on this board even watch the games. Or maybe the purple tint on their glasses is too dark.

He does not appear to be a real huge win, that's for sure.

Didn't Lardarius Webb become the Ravens best corner back as a rookie?
