I'm all for the Orioles adding better players... but Adam LaRoche isn't the kind of guy I give up a first round pick for. 33 year-old coming off more or less a career best year.

I think they need to pick up two dependable starters, because the guys they currently have are huge question marks.
Saunders, imo, is worth at least a 3 year contract with a 4th, mutual option year. He's averaged over 180 innings since his first full season as a starter in 2008. Also, his pitching style lends to longevity, because he works off of location and mixing pitches rather than overpowering batters. He also rises to the occasion.
I think you give him 8-9 guaranteed, with incentives that push him up to 12 mil per season on things such as innings, ERA, WHIP....this would allow the O's to give him great security with some insulation for poor performance - which I don't see happening from him.
Weirdo-O, are you drunk today or is this just an excessively weird day for you? In one post, you say Ken and I shouldn't trade comments on Impaler because the topic of the thread is AR. Then three posts later, you start talking about Joe Saunders. Consistency of thought is clearly not one of your strengths.
Anyway, have a great holiday. Here's my gift to you - the O's go 84-78 in 2013 and miss the playoffs.
Wieters and Markakis maybe, but Bundy and Machado??
You guys are unreal, here you have a young kid in Machado that played in a hand full of games towards the end of the season and another player that hasn’t played 1 game in MLB yet and you want to add him to a list of successful Orioles minor leaguers.
How many past minor leaguers have the O's had who came in and made a great splash right away, had many on here talking about the next great thing to hit MLB, only to watch those same players a short time later crash and burn??
There have been quite a few and I suggest before you put these two on any “Success” list you give them some time to actually prove themselves for a decent amount of time.
You guys still haven’t changed, you just love to jump the gun on any O’s player that shows any sign of success, MLB or minors, and you are quick to put them in the top echelon of the league players and some O’s pedestal, you are too funny but sad at the same time!!
It's not about if the Orioles are better than drafting than other teams or not. While, that's relevant in some small way, the main point is that the draft is a crap shoot with something like a 10% success rate...while we know exactly what LaRoche is.
Plus Adam can help right now, instead of in 2016.
Look at the success, and lack of success, of the 2 teams during that last 15 years and tell me what you think!!
Yankees = Last 15 years, 12 Fist Place Finishes, 4 Rings, 6 WS Appearances, 14 Playoff Appearances
Orioles = Last 15 years, 4th Place or worst 13 times, 0 Rings, 0 WS Appearances, 14 straight losing seasons, and 1 Miracle Playoff Appearance
Many teams, INCLUDING THE ORIOLES, have had big name minor league superstars who turn out to be nothing, you guys should know this better than most with as many potential futures “Stars” who crashed and burned in the Orioles minor leagues. The thing is the Orioles had a miraculously successful season last year and some want to now say they are a successful team in developing young talents and they want to assume that the guys they have now will turn out to be superstars, unlike the long list of MISSES they’ve had in the past.
Machado, as you said yourself, had LIMITED time, his success with his bat and glove, although it could be a potential sign of good things, it could also end up as many Oriole future stars of the past. You remember all those guys who came up with the O’s at some point in a season, showed great promise, had everyone on here drooling, only to watch that same player never amount to much.
You have people putting this Machado kid in a superstar category with his very limited time in MLB. You then get people placing this Bundy kid in the same category without him ever playing 1 game at the MLB level. I think last season’s “miracle year” has now given many on here this false sense of greatness and it is going to be interesting to watch those folks as this coming season unfolds and the O’s are a lot closer to their former selves than what they were last year.
The Orioles had a good season last year, a miraculous season, but I’m willing to bet that this year they are closer to what many expected them to be last year rather than what they turned out to be.![]()
Actually, no they haven't.
The O's for a time overrated their prospects - no one else was saying that.
Then, they got some real prospects.
As far as Machado, I didn't say he is a superstar (ESPN did), but he did put up star production. He would have had a 4-5.5 WAR over a full season.
Again, Bundy is not being touted on here - he's being touted nationally as a top 3 prospect according to pundits.
As for the Yankees, they are realizing how tough their strategy has been on their wallets and they are starting to retract.
It's easy to throw money at a situation and watch as your sure things work out.
I don't know what this O's team is going to be. I know what they have the potential to be, but they don't play in a vacuum. They have to get past teams with greater resources, like the Jays and Yanks, or better minor league systems in place, like the Rays.
the same thing can be said for every MLB team.
but this does lead to another, more interesting point. you've given away your age with your continual O's blasting. you grew up hating the O's because, for years, they were a great team and squashed your team with ease. and your obsessive jealousy continues to this very day. allow me to explain.
the Yankees have an unparalleled history, but that's all it is for you...history. you didn't get to see murderer's row or the M&M boys. they were just stories. all you could do was read about them, or listen to the older generations talk about how great they once were. the yankees of your youth were a distant second fiddle to the vastly superior Orioles. and you hate them for it.
this is why you come here. you're hoping that you can silence those spirits if you dump all over the O's of today. is it working? has any of your anger and jealousy subsided?
or are you growing more concerned, because you realize the O's are actually building a stronger minor league system. couple that with Hank's decision to keep more profits and spend less on the team, and you're getting that old familiar twinge.
you're watching important yankee players leave NY for places like Seattle, Cleveland and even worse...Pittsburgh. those players are leaving because they can get more money. and in some cases those players feel they have a better shot at the playoffs with those teams. you're imagining a long period where the Yankees can't overcome the O's. and it doesn't help that many national analysts are reinforcing your fears by suggesting there's going to be a power shift in the ALe.
it will be interesting to see what happens in the standings. it will even be a little bit interesting to see how you respond. will you tuck tail and hide like you do every time the yankees get stomped. or will you double your efforts and post twice as many "O's suck" posts in an effort to quiet your demons.
good luck. and remember, all is not lost. Boston may manage to be competitive this season, that should help you a little.
Bundy has actually appeared at the MLB level. Pitched in 2 games out of the pen in late September.
[QUOTE=weird-O;8234130]the same thing can be said for every MLB team.
the Yankees have an unparalleled history, but that's all it is for you...history.

Speaking of history, I long for the days of Ham Hyatt and Truck Hannah. I remember them well.
P.S. The O's go 84-78 in 2013 and miss the playoffs.
Now that the old man is gone wouldn't it be outstanding if the Yankees end up being the armpit of the American League East ?? and for several years.
That away this dbag (JoeTool) could get a taste of how it's been for us O's fans.
I've never seen a bigger POS that deserves it.....then we can all go on his Yankee board and do nothing but trash them...![]()
Only an idiot wouldn't make this move. It's not as though your 25th pick will hull you in a Bundy, Machado etc. We are however talking about Dan 'Don't upset Angelos' Duquette, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
No he didn't get to see murders row, he had to make due with the late 90s dynasty and the "Lean Years" where it almost took them a whole decade to win the Series again and missed the playoffs one year. One whole year.
...and do you think anyone considers the platoon DH Ibanez an "Important Yankee"
You're grasping at straws.
Just call it for what it is. He's a loser obsessed with trolling this forum. Its been going on for years.
He's a loser with a sad, sad, obsession. That's all there is to it.
