Legendary newscaster Sam Donaldson was stopped on December 1 at 8:20 p.m. for a traffic violation in Lewes, Delaware, RumorFix has confirmed.
Police tell RumorFix they suspected that the former ABC News man was drinking alcohol during the routine traffic stop. They gave him a field sobriety test and arrested him for DUI. After completing the Intoxilyzer test, the 78-year-old was released. He’s due in court on Friday.
Since they treat DUI as a traffic violation in Delaware, no mug shot is taken.
A DUI conviction could result in six months in jail, license suspension, drunk driving classes and a fine of up to $1,500.
