Default John Cale - Island Years

I could kick myself for selling my John Cale Island LPs to a record store years ago.

At least his Island recordings are now available on a double CD.

Especially "Fear is a Man's Best Friend"; "Ship of Fools"; "Gun"; "Guts"; "Helen of Troy"; "I Keep A Close Watch"; "Pablo Picasso"; "Leaving It Up To You"; "Sudden Death"; "Mary Lou"

Well this is about the last post I expected to see on the Baltimore Sun message board. Cale is my favorite artist of all time. If anyone even has a passing interest in his career, check out the Island Years. It compiles three of his best albums: Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy plus some bonus tracks. He also just released his new album, Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood which is quite good.

I pretty much grew up listening to Cale. Most people confuse him with J. J. Cale.

My first Cale album was "Guts," which I bought after reading a positive review in "Stereo Review" magazine.

After that, I bought the rest of the Island year albums, in addition to his earlier work: Paris 1919, etc.

Last fall I was at the 18th Amendment Bar in Wash DC, Capitol Hill.

They had "Gun" on the juke.
