Default Mikulski to Lead Senate Appropriations Committee

Way to go Babs! About time those a-holes you work with came to their senses. This is good news for all federales who live and work in MD.

"In an unexpected move that could have significant implications for Maryland, Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski will be named the first female chair of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday.

The Baltimore native and Maryland Democrat, who had been the most senior member of the U.S. Senate without a committee gavel, was suddenly in line to head the influential spending panel following behind-the-scenes maneuvering for chairmanships that played out after the death Monday of its former chairman, Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii."

Whether you like Mikulski or not, remember who will probably take her seat when she retires.

yea, that also explains why nearly all americans declare that congress is "worthless but turn around and declare that "my representative is OK". say that in 50 states and you get the same worthless congress you complain about over and over. Democracy without thought can be kinda dangerous.

As a Maryland native is it shameful to say the welfare state it's become is an abomination?

I think the previous "Shoe" Balto Mayor sums it up pretty well, Agnew, D'Alesandro, Glenspending, O'Malley and Sarbanes as well.

    It's great for Senator Mikulski.

It's great for Maryland and the nation.

And it's especially great for those of us who like to laugh at those who are reduced to whining and complaining about our democratic republic form of government when they do not like the election results.

Anybody have a few (no spin) bullet points of her major accomplishments?

I am sure this will get Maryland money. But I really hate that the system works that way.
I don't really have a problem with BM. My father worked on some of her early campaigns and she was always nice when I met her. I just remember lots of smoking and loud laughter.
I was on a plane with her a few years ago and noticed that she did not fly first class.

I don't really care for her politics. But I have no issue with her ethics or her as a person.

Yes, this will be good for Maryland, especially for the well connected and the beneficiaries of outsourcing.

The Unequal State of America: a Reuters series

    Redistributing Up

The federal government has emerged as one of the most potent factors behind the rise in income inequality in the United States - especially in the nation’s capital. Income is increasingly being redistributed up, not just down, through tax cuts and to a growing upper class of contractors, lobbyists and lawyers.
