I don't see how this relates to guns.

If I remember, according to reports, the gunman shot everyone, including himself in less than 4 minutes. At my office I cannot get across town in less than 15 minutes (and I don't work in a large town). The response was kinda slow, but with taxpayers wanting less money spent on government workers, including municipalities' police forces, it can be expected. The tragedy was unfortunate and unprecedented. No need to put blame on anyone but the crazy gunman.

According to this article, it was all over in 2 minutes...2 minutes, 26 dead plus the shooter...

Almost as if he wanted to get the attack in under the wire before the cops got there. Again, pretty clever for an autistic kid with no motive to attack school kids.

The first word of the horrifying Newtown school shooting went out over the town’s police radio at 9:36 this morning.

Two minutes later, a dispatcher reported the gunshots had stopped.

“Sandy Hook School. Caller is indicating she thinks there’s someone shooting in the building,” a Newtown dispatcher radioed in the town’s first report of the killings.

Less than a minute later, the dispatcher radioed:

“Units responding to the Sandy Hook School. The front glass has been broken in front of the school They are unsure why …

“All units, the individual I have on the phone said he is continuing to hear what he believes to be gunfire.”

Amid the confusing situation, officers can be heard reporting a possible second shooter headed for the rear of the school.

“The shooting appears to have stopped,” the dispatcher radioed at 9:38 a.m. “There is silence at this time. The school is in lockdown.”

    It doesn't.

In contumacious' fantasy world the kindergarten teacher has a glock strapped to her inner thigh just above her stocking tops. Upon seeing the killer, she does a forward roll over the desk while pulling out the gun. She aims. The killer, sporting a semi automatic weapon and a few handguns is so shocked by this combination of beauty, feminine authority, and lethality that he doesn't have the presences of mind to blow her through the windows and instead just stands there dumbfounded. The teacher shoots the killer right between the eyes because that's the only place on the man's body not covered by body armour. The children all sing "frere jacques" as they step over his dead body on the way out to the play ground.

The rest of us live in the real world and think arming elementary school teachers is a lousy idea.

Yeah but having armed security personnel in each school is not a bad idea.

Absolutely. My daughter's private school in the city has four off duty officers on duty at all times.

Refresh my memory but which party has been hardline on teachers and civil servants, slashing jobs, not funding projects, and oh by the way who is going to make a boat load of money from the training and purchasing of guns? HELLO PEOPLE??????

    Depends on what you mean.

I do know that in New York they have a school safety division within the police department and there are police and police cars at the schools. I think this can be appropriate as we have some oversight in terms of their training and adherence to the law. I wonder if the killer would have gone through with it if he saw a police cruiser parked by the entrance.

I think subcontracting security out to some private firm like the wackenhuts is a bad idea.
