Default Pope blasts same-sex marriage in Christmas address

    Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/12/2...#storylink=cpy

The pope pressed his opposition to gay marriage Friday, denouncing what he described as people manipulating their God-given identities to suit their sexual choices - and destroying the very "essence of the human creature" in the process. Benedict XVI made the comments in his annual Christmas address to the Vatican bureaucracy, one of his most important speeches of the year. He dedicated it this year to promoting traditional family values in the face of vocal campaigns in France, the United States, Britain and elsewhere to legalize same-sex marriage.

In his remarks, Benedict quoted the chief rabbi of France, Gilles Bernheim, in saying the campaign for granting gays the right to marry and adopt children was an "attack" on the traditional family made up of a father, mother and children.
Can anyone tell me how same-sex marriage is an attack on the traditional family?

I'm sure come Tuesday, there will be plenty of same-sex couples opening presents with their children, heading to grandmother's house for Christmas dinner, and doing whatever else families do.

What part of TRADITIONAL didn't you see Matt. >shakes head< The activities of the last couple of decades do not erase the open accepted traditions of several hundred years.

"Is an attack on God's design of a traditional marriage." That is how I believe the Pope should have stated it.

Who is trying to erase the "accepted traditions of several hundred years"?

If you don't want a gun don't buy a gun.

If you don't want a same sex marriage don't marry a dude.

Did God design it with or without specific roles for men and women?

    Second blast in a week

Pope Benedict XVI said this week that gay marriage poses a threat to "justice and peace." The 85-year-old religious leader went on to suggest that same-sex marriage is "unnatural."

According to the Associated Press, the head of the Roman Catholic Church kicked off the Christmas season on Friday with the traditional lighting of the tree in Vatican City's St. Peter's Square. On the same day, the Holy See released the Pope's message for World Day of Peace 2013.
    A threat to peace??? Seriously?

It's YOU that said Can anyone tell me how same-sex marriage is an attack on the traditional family?

The Pope has an opinion which obviously differs from yours.

I'll try and control myself even though you're entirely off topic. Keyword "traditional" as the Pope see's it.

People in glass houses (aka, the Pope) shouldn't throw stones.

Too many of his own clergy preferred the non-traditional approach.

I'd stay out of other people's business, and focus on cleaning his own house.

    Mom, what say ye?

I'm not off-topic at all. I'm just exposing the fallacies of your stances and you don't like it.

If you don't want a gun don't buy one.

If you don't want a gay marriage don't marry a dude.

    Those are consistent takes.

    Anything else is hypocrisy.

BTW, since when did the Pope get to effect law? I'm pretty sure we tried that and it sucked. And it's kinda one of the whole reasons America was founded.

Merry Christmas to you too, Pope. You are becoming so incredibly irrelevant.

BTW; is celibacy a "traditional family value"?

It came from the Pope. What, do you expect him to quote from Darwin's book?

He created Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve. And he gave both the biological design to procreate which was one of his first commandments to Adam and Eve. And both compliment each other with masculine and feminine qualities. They just go together like yin and yang.

Topic TRADITIONAL marriage. Ralph and Big Mike making fudge under the tree isn't what we know as traditional is it? Can you show me a TRADITIONAL single book about them under a tree older than 25 years?

The Catholic church does have some odd traditions. I never understood why we had to confess to a Priest or why we even had to call a Priest Father. The Catholic beliefs seem to go against what the Bible teaches. Many Catholics here and around the world pray to the Virgin Mary. I'm not really sure where that came from.
