Me! You are not naive enough to think that we are just going in there out of the goodness of our heart, are you?

We have the largest undeveloped oil reserves in the world. Democrats would rather send US troops into other countries than drill our reservoirs.

"THE Commander of United States (U.S.) Africa Command (Africom) in Stuttgart, Germany, General Carter F. Ham yesterday appraised the operations of militant Islamic organisations on African continent and warned that Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and others are strengthening their hold in northern Mali and exporting terrorism to northern part of Nigeria through provision of arms, explosives and financing."

I wouldn't be surprised to see more news briefs on Africa and the atrocities that are taking place, as though it just started yesterday. They will be working to get Americans on board with this new war front on terrorism.

Nothing that would merit me a purple heart. My first husband was in the service but never saw combat. My daughter is a resident and rotates thru the VA and sees a lot of damaged vets. Not that I claim any of that is close.

Think someone who has seen war would have an appreciation of what it means to send other people's children to fight.

Hagel and Kerry have several Purple Hearts between them.

Hagel is pretty conservative on most issues, including cutting Defense spending.

I would think that as well.

But just to clarify things for the rest of us, just how many husbands have you had ?

Why in the world would you care? My first husband died and I re-married. Hardly unusual.

    I was merely seeking clarification.

Some people (particularly, but not limited to, women) cannot manage without a spouse.

Others, both male and female, can.

It has been my experience that far too many people marry and don't in any sense "manage". Marriage is hard work, see the divorce rate and the many unhappy marriages. I was blessed w 2 wonderful men.

I advise my kids not to rush into marriage, if it's going to happen, fine. But there are worse things than being single.

    Some decent wisdom there.

He would be the first Vietnam veteran to hold the job and the first non commissioned officer, an Army sergeant grievously wounded in combat to ever be Secretary Of Defence!

”At an uncertain time in America—with a significant debt burden, a polarized Congress, and a host of challenges facing the international community, I am confident Senator Hagel will provide a vibrant, no-nonsense voice of logic and leadership to the United States,” ~ Brent Scowcroft~

    AIPAC hates Hagel.
    israel hates Hagel.
    Neocons hate Hagel.
Conclusion: He's qualified for the job.

Leon Panetta has been a saber-rattler about Iran on Israel's behalf, and it would be refreshing to have a Secretary of Defense who puts America's interests first.

BTW; among Americans, it's evangelical Christians (the same ones who despise you for being gay) who most strongly support AIPAC and the hardline right-wingers who govern Israel. It seems that most American Jews don't particularly like Netanyahu.
Iran is pushing us to war with them by their actions. You'll see if they ever control the straits of hormuz and your gas prices are $10 a gallon.
