Nothing that would merit me a purple heart. My first husband was in the service but never saw combat. My daughter is a resident and rotates thru the VA and sees a lot of damaged vets. Not that I claim any of that is close.

Think someone who has seen war would have an appreciation of what it means to send other people's children to fight.

Hagel and Kerry have several Purple Hearts between them.

Hagel is pretty conservative on most issues, including cutting Defense spending.

It has been my experience that far too many people marry and don't in any sense "manage". Marriage is hard work, see the divorce rate and the many unhappy marriages. I was blessed w 2 wonderful men.

I advise my kids not to rush into marriage, if it's going to happen, fine. But there are worse things than being single.

He would be the first Vietnam veteran to hold the job and the first non commissioned officer, an Army sergeant grievously wounded in combat to ever be Secretary Of Defence!

Just about every politician on Capitol Hill and the White House is afraid to cross AIPAC. And that includes Obama during his first term. Now that he doesn't have to run for office again or raise campaign money, maybe he can exercise some independence from the Israel-first crowd that is pushing us toward a disastrous war against Iran.

Leon Panetta has been a saber-rattler about Iran on Israel's behalf, and it would be refreshing to have a Secretary of Defense who puts America's interests first.

BTW; among Americans, it's evangelical Christians (the same ones who despise you for being gay) who most strongly support AIPAC and the hardline right-wingers who govern Israel. It seems that most American Jews don't particularly like Netanyahu.

Iran is pushing us to war with them by their actions. You'll see if they ever control the straits of hormuz and your gas prices are $10 a gallon.
