The federal government reportedly spent at least $8.9 million helping Mitt Romney prepare to take office if he won the presidential election, according to Time.
The magazine obtained documents from the General Services Administration (GSA) that detail the scope and cost of the government's transition efforts for the GOP presidential nominee. Time says the final bill is not yet known because costs are still being tabulated.
There has been a law in place since 1963 detailing terms of presidential transitions, with the GSA having a prominent role. The law was amended in 2010 requiring the GSA, which is essentially the government's landlord, to provide some facilities and other services to candidates after their presidential nominating convention.
