There's an old police story that goes around ( unverified) that an officer charged a guy with disorderly conduct for flipping him off. In court, the 1st defense was used and the judge reportedly went for it, and even said some people consider the finger as a form of greeting. Supposedly, on the way out of court the officer flipped off the judge while saying have a nice day.

That's actually a Maryland case and it went to SCOTUS. I kid you not. This is the true story. A cop pulled a guy over and gave him a ticket for speeding. The guy gave the cop the finger. The cop arrested the guy for interfering with an officer in the performance of his duty. The guy appealed the case all the way to SCOTUS. They determined that it was protected under the first amendment as freedom of expression. They also determined that it would be legal for the guy to give the President of the United States the finger and the cop was not entitled to a protection that was not afforded to the President.
