KANNUR: The Kasaragod district sessions court on Thursday sentenced a madrassa teacher to 22 years in prison for raping and sodomizing a 10-year-old girl in 2008. Judge K Bhaskaran also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the teacher. If the fine is not paid, he will have to serve an additional six months in prison.

The police said Ayyoob had lured the girl into his room at the madrassa and raped and sodomized her and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the truth to anybody. The girl fainted after she came home and when parents asked her, she broke down and revealed everything. A case was registered and Ayyoob was arrested.
