Default Audits of businesses for illegal immigrants rising

    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...N=US&TEMPLATE=
SEATTLE (AP) -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reached its highest number yet of companies audited for illegal immigrants on their payrolls this past fiscal year.

Audits of employer I-9 forms increased from 250 in fiscal year 2007 to more than 3,000 in 2012. From fiscal years 2009 to 2012, the total amount of fines grew to nearly $13 million from $1 million. The number of company managers arrested has increased to 238, according to data provided by ICE.

The investigations of companies have been one of the pillars of President Barack Obama's immigration policy.
Of course. Focus on addressing the cause, not just the symptom. A vastly different approach than the one espoused by thinly-veiled right wing racists.

A good approach. Hiring illegal labor should be a humongous financial risk for a company. Owners and managers should be held financially and legally responsible.

Excellent. Go after the companies rather than stigmatize Latinos with fascistic "show us your papers" laws like Arizona's.

So if Hispanic people get pulled over we shouldn't ask for ID so that we don't stigmatize them?

Good. I think this is a good approach. Cut off the "food" that sustains illegal immigration and you will stem the tide. Going after the root cause of the problem is always better than simply treating the symptom. I wish the government would realize this with their knee jerk actions regarding gun control after the Connecticut tragedy as well.

If persons who happen to be Latino are stopped for valid reasons rather than for just being Latino, then ID should clearly be requested. However, immigration matters are federal rather than state matters, and local police should behave accordingly.

Laws should be enforced by law police officers. If a police officer has a reason to believe that a law is being broken he should investigate by legal means. This BS about local/state officials staying out of immigration is BS and I doubt any other counrty would take that stance.

So the only paper they have to show is an id/license in Arizona?

You have heard that getting an id is hard for some people? So why insist on an ID for gun purchases but not voting?

Take away their reasons for being here and they will eventually be forced to "self deport." Now who said that? Right, Mitt Romney.

The feds should look at all the companies providing "contract" labor to various industries (a lot of them agricultural).
