Flacco is looking really good so far using Cam's playbook.
Flacco is looking really good so far using Cam's playbook.
Can't disagree...however, my one issue with Cam became his inability to adjust to defense adjustments....How many times did the Ravens run all over their opponents for most of the first half only to struggle in the 3rd quarter?
It looks like the route combinations, the blocking assignments and other aspects of the offense changed during the middle of the game. THAT might be the biggest improvement!
I respectfully disagree
Caldwell used way to much of the middle of the field today to call it Cams playbook
I've seen very few games called by Cameron that were complete and where proper adjustments were made in the second half. I'm sure Caldwell has used some of Cameron's plays, but it's when they are used and the adjustments made during the game that makes the difference. Caldwell gets an A+ today from me.
This was a complete game where the defense complemented the offense and vice-versa. It was a fun game to watch.
The OP is just Cam-obsessed. Isn't that obvious by now already?
And your points are clear and well stated. There isn't a "NEW" play book; there isn't TIME to implement a NEW playbook. The POINT of firing Cameron was/is to get better USE out of the play book that already exists. So this nonsense of trying to grab the light away from Caldwell and give it to Cameron is just so much nonsense by the OP. Cameron wasn't necessarily fired because he didn't HAVE the right plays in his play book; it was that he didn't CALL the right plays that were already IN the play book. Today, Caldwell did. And it was obvious.
Maybe Caldwell took a leap of faith and trusted the offense to make those plays in the middle. I was soooooo happy to see us using the middle of the field. Opens up another dimension for the defense - and something we should really expect to see.
Let's hope it is a taste of things to come.
Raven's won today because all phases of the game played well. They did something that has been missing very often this year....they EXECUTED their plays. The play calling from Cameron left a lot to be desired, but more often than not it was the execution that really was to blame. Today, the O-line blocked, Flacco played well, and the defense got after the QB. Execution is always the key in any game.
Cams playbook called for the WR's to stop and just stay. Caldwell wants them to move. Did you see Bolden cut across the middle to get the safety to bite on the long bomb to Smith. Now that was never seen in Cam's offense. The middle was used a lot and Joe even rolled out alot in the game. The pocket was moving not the same Joe back there getting pressure up the gut. Burk is our weakest link and Caldwell moved Joe to the non rush side a lot.
This was Cam's playbook, it just wasn't Cam's playcalling. The play design was never the issue, just the primary receiver and decision-making based on the circumstances.
I think Ray and Joe are going to take this offense to another level now.
Cameron was predictable.
he called the same formations and plays in the same situation over and over and over.
When I can look at the t.v. as the Ravens come up to the line, call the motion and where the ball is going about 80% of the time correctly, don't you think that NFL defensive players and coordinatiors can do the same with gamefilm, time and pracitce?
I liked what I saw last week, but it was against the Giants D, not a top-5 defense by any stretch.....
