Default Playoffs the past 5 years .......

So at our tailgate yesterday, we were talking about the radio talk shows, blogs etc. that wanted Harbaugh fired last week .......

the subject of us making the playoffs the past 5 years came up and no one knew who else besides the ravens had done it ........

just did a bit of research and the answer is no one else beside Harbaugh's Ravens.........

the teams below have made the playoffs more than once in the past 5 years, 2008 - 2012 .......

Dallas and Chicago still have a chance to make this list .....

    Baltimore 5
    Green Bay 4
    New England 4
    Indianapolis 4
    Philadelphia 3
    New Orleans 3
    Pittsburgh 3
    Cinncinnati 3
    Atlanta 3
    San Diego 2
    Houston 2
    New York Jets 2
    San Francisco 2
    Seattle 2
    Denver 2
    Minnesota 2

And also there is something on Flacco on his first 5 years. Maybe the only QB who has lead his team to the playoffs in his 5 years? Not sure, though.

After reading your post, there is no doubt Harbaugh should be fired. No way do I want the Ravens to be consistently in the playoffs.

You had to go and say that, didn't ya?

(I don't know man...I MIGHT have to amend my position on Harbaugh. I don't like the guy; I don't like his in game lack of command; but how can one seriously argue against 5 straight playoff appearances & 2 back to back AFC N championships?)

There are a variety of coaching types in the NFL.

For guys like Lombardi, Shula, Stram, George Allen, NOTHING substituted for winning.

For some guys winning half the time fits their competitive needs.

And there are guys who hope they win every week, but really enjoy the day to day experience of running practices and being connected to an NFL team. Preparing for the draft. If they win, that is extra treat.

Thats why some coaches have little problem with a loss. Come Monday morning after a loss, they are still enjoying the experience of running an NFL team and being involved with the players. Working at a first class practice facility.

It is hard to believe "America's Team " is on that list of 1. Jerry Jones must be doing something right? Yet what gets me is the love the media has for this team. Every draft we see the great Dallas War Room and every year we see they are a bust. Now maybe the media will find other teams worthy of the Dallas mystic.

and they keep pushing the boyz - skins rivalry when in reality next week is one of the few times in decades its produced a meaningful game .......

the redskins have to win next week to get the skunk out of the boat and even get on the 1 playoff appearance list .....

so after next sunday night's game you will have the cowboys 2 appearences and redskins none or both of them with 1 appearance each the past 5 years .......

I'd say the Ravens have done pretty good this year, even with all the injuries, a 3 game losing streak that ended last Sunday and firing their OC two weeks ago.

Although we complain about John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco, remember they have taken us to the playoffs 5 times now and won playoff games in the last 4 years.

That is impressive in itself! Who knows what Flacco would have done if we had a great OC, we might have won a Super Bowl in that time frame.

Or a reciever who could catch the damn ball in crunch time, or a kicker who could make a chip shot

That's the one I was thinking of on Flacco, the first to take his team to the playoffs in his first 4 years and win at least one game in the playoffs each year.

It's also important to point out that the Ravens have repeated as AFC North champs, no small feat in its own right. The NFC has a 50% turn over of teams returning to the playoffs, which is not unusual. In fact, a significant turn over rate is more the norm than a team repeating as a division winner. That's no small accomplishment, especially given the schedule and the injuries. It's hard NOT to credit the coaching staff.

On the other hand, every division in the AFC can say the same thing this year.

Very unusual, statistically. But yes...all division winners repeated this year.

its unbelievable how the cowboyz - redskins game is dominating the media this week .......

I realize that its the biggest game this weekend but the media continues to shove this mostly meaningless "rivalry" down our throats like either of these teams have been relevant in the past 20 years ........

bottom line is no matter who wins Sunday these 2 teams combined will have 2 playoff appearances in the past 5 years ......

IMO, how far the Ravens go in the playoffs will depend on how much the defense can pressure a QB.

Little or no QB pressure means an early end to the Ravens playoff hopes.

I doubt the "rivalry"has much to do with the hype for this week's game.

As the only relevant game in Week #17 - it IS a playoff game.

    Win and move on.

    Lose and go home.

A game like this is the reason they love the "flex scheduling" - playing this game at the normally scheduled 1PM slot would have been a tragedy for football fans across the country.

Having the final regular-season NFL game at 830PM, on a holiday weekend, and have it actually mean something, will ensure a TV ratings record.

Being robbed of a chance to see Tony Romo and Jason Garrett literally throw themselves out of the playoffs yet again would have been a tragedy for fans across the country.

The Redskins actually RAN the ball more than they threw it this season. After years and years of Daniel Snyder and his minions focusing on trying (and failing) to win with glitzy free agents and WRs, they went old-school, ran the snot out of the ball, and wouldn't you know... they won their division. Even during the Portis years, that was a guy who would light up SportsCenter when his line gave him a big hole to sprint through... but give him the ball at the 3 and ask him to break tackles or run over people... forget it. He was hitting the ground. Alfred Morris is the best thing the Redskins could have asked for. Solid line, dangerous QB, and a RB willing to give his all for the team... and suddenly the Deadskins matter again.

Running the ball and defense. Definitely old school. However, I'd point out the following:

    1. They played in a weak division.
    2. When teams like that come up against teams that can score points in a hurry (Denver, etc.) they usually come up on the short end of the stick because the league has tilted the rules towards offense.
