Well you do get to the point in your life when you realize you have far more than you need and start looking to get rid of stuff. Best part of the holidays is having all the family together, going skiing over the weekend which should be lots of fun now that we have some really decent snow!
Have a happy new year DS!
Utopia does not exist. 20 dead children is a fact. When will people like you face the fact that the only way to deal with people like Lanza is through force not pie in the sky platitudes? The only thing standing between those children and eternity were six heroic but unarmed teachers. 11 armed guards at Sidwell making sure the same tragedy does not occur to the children of the ruling class. Why should not the children of middle class and poor Americans be entitled to the same protection? I thought you liberals were all for equality in this Country.
There was an armed guard at Columbine. And 11 guards at a school? Please.
Heard something funny last night: "We were able to reduce drunk driving fatalities in this countries. Of course the solution wasn't more liquor".
And I am for equality in that I want quality public education available for all. But if you want a private school for your kids, that's your perogative. My kids all went to private schools, but that's my decision and my cost.
If you dispute the number of guards please tell me why. Your analogy with drunk driving is absurd. The guards are there to protect children not harm them. My son also went to private grade and high school but in a time when things like what just happened did not. Are you saying cost should be a factor in a country that finds billions to bail out GM and the post office and gives billions in foreign aid every year?
Happy New Year!
Why is the analogy absurd? Was the answer to more responsible drinking more alcohol?
And I dispute the number of guards because of the source. Breitbart? When is that not a bunch of lies?
And HNY to you as well Omaha B--no drinking and driving and no drinking and firearms. Pretty sure you know that.....![]()
While it is not the norm, some of us do reach that point in our lives where a good portion of the 'stuff' that one wants, one can merely purchase out of hand with nary a moment's of thought. Given enough time, one can readily accumulate all of the 'stuff' that one wants. Having contemplated this issue before, the things that matter to one, as one can can only speak for oneself, are not the items collectively comprising the category of 'stuff' in and of itself but rather the purposed nature of the category. Keeping the Missus and our quadrupeds healthy and happy is the best gift that I could ever have. The 'stuff' serves as one mechanism for achieving those ends. On a purely singular note, one has all of the stuff, already, that one wants except for a few larger items that one must earn. One does not need a SL65 AMG and one does not want to be given a SL65 AMG. Instead, one has set the purchase of a SL65 AMG as a personal target by which to gauge achievement (a target that one readily pushed back without hesitation from this year in order to purchase the Missus a new vehicle and to pay for her to start her Master of Science degree program).
One does miss having snow on the ground during this time of year. One is looking forward to an excellent and productive 2013. While the eventuality is one of being dust in the wind, one does derive substantial pleasure and finds substantive purpose in the academic pursuits. Having shepherded another series of papers, on multiple topics, through the peer review process, over the last few months has provided encouragement. The next paper has already ballooned to 76 equations and I have yet to review the theory for matrix structure analysis and modal analysis in the context of closed head injury trauma.
May this year be the best of all years for you and yours.![]()
