Do you ask if prescription meds are secured or household and farm poisons, pool chemicals, knives and other sharp tools? Are cars locked at all times so kids can't get in and shift them out of gear? How about 5 gallon buckets of water? Are the pets' vaccinations current? There are thousands of hazards in the world. How do you single out one or two?
I take yr point but I was thinking about older kids. Never left my kids who were in the "let's swallow some Lysol" or drown in a bucket age go to someone's house without me, other than relatives or really close friends.

If listing legally owned property, then also art, collectibles, bullion, furniture, investment and savings account numbers, tools....doesn't the public have a "right" to know the contents of other people's homes?

Sure. Why not make all tax related info public. Census too.

When our kids were young and asked to play, or stay over at someone's house that I didn't know the parents...I most certainly wanted to know if they were a gun owner. Sometimes I asked the parents straight out if they had a gun, and whether the guns/ammo were locked up. Not all parents/adults are responsible....that's fact.

If I didn't get the right answer, my kids weren't allowed in that house. Could care less about anyone's hurt feelings, or being offended by my questions.

Such a list would be useful for parents of kids who are concerned about the incidence of accidental shootings, which is alarmingly high. I think EVERY parent has the right to know (as much as possible), about their kid's environment - whether that be at school, or at their friend's house.

I ask as well. Guns are ok. Unsecured guns are a problem. I never had a problem when I asked but if I had I would have simply left with my child.
I also have refuse to allow my kids to play in homes with pitbulls.

    I don't need or want a list.

We agree for the most part.

I only got one, "it's none of my business" response. To which I said, if my son is staying in your house, it most definitely IS my business. Then I said if their son wanted to play at our house, it was OK, but my son won't be at their house.

But some may benefit from a list. Many parents don't like to be confrontational, by asking such questions. My wife is such a person.

One way to skin a cat.
That was my houses growing up. We had the farm with lots of animals, motorcycles, go carts, the pool, and fun. But my parents were far more liberal than I am.

I was wondering if the newspaper "sanitized" the list they published. You know, remove the politicians, judges, and connected individuals names who may not care to see that info piublic. After all, newspapers do reserve the right to edit and they did refuse to answer more questions about the article.

    from the OP's link:

The paper declined to answer further questions about the map.
The reporter did not put out a map for the area where he lives, which according to the address that was posted as his is in Queens. I wonder if he would remove his own name from the list if, perhaps, he owned or had a permit for a Model 686 Smith & Wesson in .357 caliber handgun. Since I am not allowed to say for sure he has a permit for that because I can't provide a reputable link I can only question whether IF he had one would he remove his own name.
