yep, can't blame their disastrous season on him .....

he did lead his team to the playoffs last year and won a game there ....

He was a running option QB who has a terrible delivery and won games in college that, for the most part, can't be won -- at least not consistently -- at the NFL level. Because the NFL is played at a faster speed than college, and what works in college generally does not work in the NFL.

    My 2 cents worth.

He's a former Steeler but he acts too much like a fan. I saw him two days after the blowout loss to the Ravens on 9/11/11. You would've thought he lost money on the game or had an ownership stake in the team. He was so irate with the Steelers and really angry at the Ravens it was almost too funny to believe.

BTW, Kiper freely admits that he's a Ravens fan but as a college analyst does that really matter? Hodge refuses to admit that he's a Steeler fan but its incredibly clear that he's biased toward them. The Chin is the same way but I think someone's gotten in his ear that he needs to be a tad more objective if wishes to be credible.

Lastly I get why Hodge fancies himself a Steeler even though he left for the Bears because the Steelers thought they had better options. If you've done anything in that organization you are viewed as royal family in Western PA. The appearances and autograph signings are second to none in that area. It's unreal but I get why he's so loyal.
Again, his name is HOGE, not Hodge. I saw Kiper on NFL pick-em segments where he did say he was a Raven's fan. Hoge is a good film guy and was a hard nosed football player.

Not that it really matters, but from what I've heard from Hoge, not so much in terms of analysis but in terms of "predictions", he's in the same category as Fouts and Cowher in terms of homerism. (i.e. They all tend to slip into the "we" mindset when referencing their former teams, even though they're no longer associated with said teams, and no longer a "we" WITH said teams.)

Tebow did take the Broncos to the playoffs and actually win a playoff game.
He hasn't gotten any kind of chance with the Jets this year. At least not enough to bash the guy. I get all the talk about he looks bad on the practice field. I even get he's a bad NFL QB....I think so also. He also didn't ask for nor did he deserve all that media hype. To me that's where the problems came from.

    So my question is....

Why did Hoge find it necessary to publicly bash the kid ? Tebow hasn't done anything wrong. Sure he signed a lucrative NFL contract with the Broncos and the Jets. Wouldn't anybody in his shoes ?

I think Hoge is a pretty good film guy also.
But...I think he's a jerk for bashing Tebow publicly. Hence my Hoge sucks comment earlier in this thread.

has he ever publicly bashed a Steeler player lie that ?

I agree with you. Tebow did not ask for the media furor and I agree Hog was a dick for piling on. Most of the analysysts diaparage his quarterback skills but he was one of the best college players ever and they knew his style when they drafted them.

He has bashed Mike Wallace pretty bad on the air.

He is a farm boy from Idaho and loves to hunt and fish. He is not sophisticated. I did enjoy watching him play as he was a real hard nose.

Best to you and yours for the holidays.

I agree with that, he does favor the Steelers but notice he picks the Ravens quite a bit.

I understand in a way. I am no longer associated with U. of Pitt football but I still back them in every way even though the Program went way downhill when they went into the Big East.

I have to laugh as I do some Steeler bashing on the Steeler Boards and take flak from some.

It drives me crazy when Big Ben says he is not a "film guy." If he was he would be a better quarterback.

If he does dislike Haley's offense it is because he doesn't run it the way he is supposed to.

Instead of going way downfield against Dallas and Cincy he could have thrown to the open guys for first downs.

    He makes me nuts.

I asked another Steeler fan in another thread what he thought about all the Tomlin and Big Ben bashing......

I don't see many Steeler games because they often play at the same time the Ravens do. So there is NO WAY I could judge Big Ben this year. My hunch is he doesn't agree with Haleys offensive system. Hard to argue with the Steelers success with Ben at the helm. But I defer to you.......because you would absolutely know more than I...Why the change in the offense?

at the risk of getting hammered by my Ravens fans
Roethlisberger and Tomlin would look good in purple

I'll give you Flacco and Harbaugh

I have noticed that in the past year or so he has actually picked the Ravens to win. (I don't think he's ever picked the Ravens to beat the Steelers, but I'm not 100% sure of that.) It's understandable to a point, but it does get annoying. Of course, so was listening to Cal Ripken's reverse homerism. That was equally annoying.

The change came from Art Rooney. He wanted the team to run the ball more and he wanted Ben to take less sacks.

Not sure I would do that trade.

In defense of Ben, he had a different O line every week with all the injuries and his young receivers really let him down with key fumbles and drops.

Hines Ward on the other hand picked the Ravens to win both games and the Division. He was missed this year.

I did notice the drops and fumbles in the few games I watched. I expected more out of Wallace and Brown. Brown made 2 huge mistakes in the Cincy game that might have been the major factor in the Steelers not getting in.

As for the O line....didn't the same thing happen last year ? Lot's of injuries that is ?

and I wonder what Tomlin thought about Rooneys change ? I really like Tomlin. He's not only a good coach he seems like a real classy guy.

Back to the trade....I'll throw in Oher.

Brown was the MVP in 2011 and got a big contract. I expected more from him.

O line injuries were worse this year, it was a mess.

Oher likes it there, Be nice to him.
