Default Israel to NRA: Go Fly a Kite

Israel's policy on issuing guns is restrictive, and armed guards at its schools are meant to stop terrorists, not crazed or disgruntled gunmen, experts said Monday, rejecting claims by America's top gun lobby that Israel serves as proof for its philosophy that the U.S. needs more weapons, not fewer.

I always find it interesting how the left opposes possibly workable solutions for unworkable ones that make them feel good. Putting armed security in schools, under the current circumstances, is a common sense approach. Blindly banning some types of guns will solve nothing yet liberals go for that because it appeals to them politically. Armed security, of course, does not.

    Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally?

    Very interrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrresting.

Dr. David T. Schiller weapons and tactics instructor for the Israeli Defense Force :

Schiller describes how parents and teachers armed themselves to protect children: "When the message got around to the PLO groups and a couple of infiltration attempts failed, the attacks against schools ceased.Too much of a risk here: Terrorists and other evildoers don't like risks."

So tell the folks at CBS to go and flock themselves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither Israel nor Switzerland are the gun ownership utopias that the pro-gun crowd thinks they are.

Gun ownership isn't a Right in either country

I wonder why the pro-gun folks never mention South Africa?

Gun ownership is a de jure right in the US.

Gun ownership is a de facto privilege in the US.

    So? WHAT'S CHANGED? NOTHING.

    And don't care.

But they are good at what they do.

    I may even rejoin.

But to the task at hand.

"Because it is aimed at preventing terror attacks, Israel's school security system is part of a multi-layered defense strategy that focuses on prevention and doesn't depend on a guy at a gate with a gun.

Intelligence gathering inside Palestinian territories, a large military force inside the West Bank and a barrier of towering concrete slabs and electronic fencing along and inside the West Bank provide the first line of defense.

Guards are stationed not just at schools, but at many other public facilities, including bus and train stations, parking lots, malls and restaurants.

There are other measures of prevention of an attack taking place, which are carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all over the country," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Many are not for public knowledge.

"Gun licensing to private citizens is limited largely to people who are deemed to need a firearm because they work or live in dangerous areas, Amit said. West Bank settlers, for instance, can apply for weapons licenses, as can residents of communities on the borders with Lebanon and the Gaza Strip."

Intelligence gathering? Oh, my. Wonder how the ALCU and other "civil libertarians" would go for that.

    You see my Israeli acquaintances say it is quite easy to get get firearms licence as long as you fit this bill;

Gun licensing to private citizens is limited largely to people who are deemed to need a firearm

Which means as long as you are not an Arab Israeli or of Arab decent.

Which is similar to the issuance policy in places like New York City and Chicago. You know, like to celebs like De Niro, Cosby and Rosie O'Donnell's bodyguards.

Yup. Saw this. It is amazing how the once reputable NRA has morphed into a far-right radical nut house. Now they are twisting the policies of a foreign government to suit their own agenda. Too bad this story gets buried in page 7 while the NRA here gets all of the press. If more people knew this was yet another lie......
