Default Where are all the Bruce Arians haters now?

Funny how last year when the topic of Bruce Arians as possible OC for the Ravens came up, the boards were flooded with comments like: "NO WAY. The Steelers fans hate him". Guess those Steelers fans didn't really know what they were talking about, since Arians might win the Coach of the Year award. As HEAD COACH, not just OC. Hmmmmmmmmmmm....

(But hey...the Ravens got to go with Cam Cameron. Well...at least until a couple weeks ago, when he got canned.)

I never hated him. They went to two SB's with him as OC.

Haley on the other hand, who knows. The Steeler D gave up six points against the Bengals and three of those off a tuurnover/short field. The allowed 14 yards rushing to Green-Ellis yet lost at home only scoring ten points.

I know, DK. In fact, it was generally non-Steelers fans who were quoting Steelers fans from Steelers boards.

As soon as I saw that the Steelers had hired Haley, I got a bad feeling. He's been trouble wherever he's been; he never seems to get along with his players; and Ben openly said he was not pleased that Arians was gone. That's not to say that Haley was directly responsible for Ben's ragged play in the last two games in which he threw picks that cost the Steelers the game. But there's obviously a disconnect between Ben and Haley, and just as with Cameron, when the OC and QB don't see eye to eye, bad things happen.

Something was missing. The Steeler offense was always a threat yet they whimpered at the end. It was puzzling and Haley is the only difference.

I rarely criticize OC's as I do not see the film and on tv can rarely see how the defense is lined up but on a drive to win the game to call Dwyer into the middle twice and then throw seemed strange.

Usually with seven men in the box a team will call a run but that almost always means a zone defense behind and there are ways to get two guys in one zone for a first down.

I think most of his comments are spot on. The biggest issue is why no one on this board can handle the truth

I've never understood all the flack that Arians got. He let Ben be Ben and that was usually a very dangerous thing for most other teams. But they brought that stooge Todd Haley in and look what happened

I have to agree. I said at the end of last year that the wrong team fired it's OC. The Ravens should have gotten rid of Cameron, and I did not see why the Steelers got rid of Arians. Most of what I heard from Steelers fans was that they struggled in the red zone under Arians. But part of what has made the Steelers organization so good for so long is the continuity they have. Getting rid of Arians after a year that they were 12-4 and a wild card only because of two losses to Baltimore didn't seem like such a smart decision. Haley has been a magnet for controversy everywhere he has been. It was a head scratcher and now that the Steelers missed the playoffs with terrible losses to Oakland, Tennessee, Cleveland, and San Diego, it is even more puzzling. A rare bad move by a good organization.

This. Plus the amazing success he's had at Indy, not only as an OC, but as a HC as well. It could clearly be his ticket to a HC position; whereas for Cameron...not so much.

OCF, for the record, I never hated Ariens. When the Steelers decided to part ways with him I was a little surprised but trusted that the ownership and FO made a solid decision based on past practice. Ariens clearly is doing a great job with the Colts this season. I'm just not ready quite yet to call it a horrible move or crown B. A. The next Bill Belicheck.

Fair enough. But what about Haley? Do you think he was the right replacement for Arians?

The jury is still out on Haley. I think a good OC will coach to the strengths of his unit. The Steeler offense under achieved in my opinion this season. I would give Haley one more season to see if he can get it together.

Okay. Cuz his track record with other teams does not appear to be very good. I don't really follow the Steelers that closely to know the full impact Haley has had on the offense, but all in all he seemed to be a downgrade over Arians.
