Yet these "honor" killings occur with greater and greater frequency, if not dictated by Islam then why are these women being murdered?

These type of events usually revert to culture.
Some Muslim women wear full body burqa's, some just a hijab head scarf, some walk about in "American" clothing. I myself saw three muslim women just like this, walking together. I assumed the "American" dressed girl was muslim only because she was with the other two - otherwise I would never have guessed.

Why the different clothing? Cultural rules.

The only practice I know of that all Muslim's practice is times of prayer, men and women separated in the Mosque, and some religious events like Ramadan.

Nowhere does it say the religious beliefs of these people, but with about 80% of Indians being Hindus... that's probably a good guess.

I don't think Hinduism promotes marrying one's rapist.

...even as [Congressional] president Sonia Gandhi visited the State to meet with the family of a 15-year-old Dalit girl who committed suicide by immolating herself after she was gang-raped on October 6 at Sacha Khera village in Jind district.

The wave of sexual assaults began on September 9 when a Dalit girl was gang-raped in Hisar town. Multimedia clips of the assault were circulated by the accused on mobile phones. The incident came to light on September 18 when the father of the girl committed suicide on learning about them.

Following this, a newly-married 19-year-old woman was abducted and raped by four men in Gohana town near Sonepat; a 30-year-old married woman from a backward community was gang-raped at gunpoint by three men in Jind district while her family members were held hostage and the crime was videotaped; and a teenaged girl was gang-raped in a moving car by three young men in Bhiwani. Both major parties in Haryana have been reluctant to challenge the Khap panchayats frontally on the rape issue, fearing losing electoral capital.

No prosecution of the rapists due to political fears. It has nothing to do with Religion.

In case you didn't know, "immolation" means she set herself on fire and burned to death.

How dare she stain their family honor by being raped.

We can learn so much from "the religion of peace."

You appear to care more about ME women killed in domestic violence incidents than you do American-born women. Is it only because "religion" is not invoked as the cause?
