Default Vatican's New Sex Abuse Prosecutor Gets No Confidence Vote

Promoter of Justice? What a disgrace. There's no jusctice for the victims in the catholic church only denial and cover-up. And Bernard Law did all he could to hide the rapes and protect the rapist and gets a promotion for job well done.

Yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Rev. Robert W. Oliver, a Boston canon lawyer, to be the “Promoter of Justice” at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in Rome. A major portion of the job of the Promoter of Justice is the supervision of the Church’s internal investigation and prosecution of Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing children.

After the Pope’s announcement, Rev. Oliver got a no confidence vote from one of Boston’s leading child protection advocates. Anne Barrett Doyle, Co-Director of Bishop Accountability, commented to the New York Times that: “Rev Oliver is a champion of accused priests, which obviously does not bode well for the job he will do as the promoter of justice.

Boston was the epicenter of the public disclosure of the worldwide scandal of Catholic priests sexually abusing children. The Boston Globe newspaper series documented an extensive cover up of pedophile priests by Cardinal Bernard Law. The cover up of the priests who sexually abused children involved the protection of the priests from criminal prosecution by civil legal authorities and moving the priests to other parishes where more children could be victimized.

We should take these Catholic Church Child Sex Abuse Cases out of the hands of the Catholic Church and start prosecuting not just the perpetrators but those involved in the cover-up as well, starting with the Pope and working our way down.

No different to the Jerry Sandusky case and Penn State or though in fact the Catholic Church cases are even worse than that in that not only did they not come forward they actively from the Pope down covered these cases up and moved Priests around to fresh pastures where they could abuse more children. Rather than being welcomed on his travels the Pope should be arrested and charged with crimes against humanity!

SMDH And people keep putting their hard earned money into the collection plates, every week. How stupid do you have to continually support the church who continually covers up the heinous crimes. When do the Catholics finally say "Enough is Enough"???????

The catholic church has deep pockets apparently. As I posted previously on another thread, "the catholic church hires lobbist, public relations firms and has bishops pressing legislators all in an attempt to protect child rapist in the U.S." When they should be kicking the rapist out and identifying them so as to prevent another child from being raped.

I find the Promoter of Justice appointment absurd. As if they are actually trying to prosecute and end child rape within the catholic church.

The Catholic Church is 'big and powerful' my friend, but pales into insignificance when placed alongside how 'big and powerful' the Government of the United States is.

We have spent far too long pandering to Rome, Israel, the Evangelical nut-jobs and any other nut-job out there with an imaginary friend in the sky that protects them from every wrong in general and in the case of the Catholic Church, diddling our children in particular.

Arrest their arses starting with the Pope and work our way down to those miserable excuses for human beings that are diddling our kids and passing them around like communion wine. What freaking hypocrites they are, as are we for letting them get away with it.

I'm sure you did, but I have practical experience of "the troubles" and am glad that saner minds prevailed on both sides!

What I found curious after the Catholic Church priests molestations came to light, and handling of the offending priests, I have never once heard of a Catholic led group that was active in protest against the Vatican.

I led a cheer when Tiller the Killer departed. I have the green rag in the middle.

    Agreed and noted.

    From the first article:
"Pope Benedict’s failure to address the corruption in the hierarchy of the church that has protected priests who are criminal child abusers and rapists sends a message to Bishops around the world that protection of priests may be a higher priority than the protection of children. The appointment of Rev. Oliver in whom Bishop Accountability has no confidence to the top Vatican post does nothing to signal a change in the Church’s failed approach to the worldwide child abuse scandal."

The catholic church will not change unless they are made to change their stance on protecting priest.

Default Attorney ensures victims' stories are told

    When Priest Become Predators.

"In the spring of 2011, when attorneys representing 152 victims of sexual abuse by priests were close to settling with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, attorney Thomas Neuberger made a promise to his clients. No matter what happened with the settlement, he said, he would make sure their stories were told – free of the filter of media or church – by writing a book."

“I can sleep. I don’t have the nightmares anymore,” he said, though he added that he is not completely free of the abuse he suffered decades ago. “I hate Philly,” he said, because it is where some of the assaults took place. “I can’t stand to go there.” He said he still believes in God, he just no longer believes in the Catholic Church." Michael Schulte one of men in the book.
