Yes- but only at the right price. No longer than 2 years either.
Wow. Interesting.
Absolutely! His value to the team is similar to R. Lewis's. Although his skills have diminished and he has dealt with injuries his value to the Ravens is very high.
Yes
but along with his re-signing, they need to draft or UFA sign Maryland's Kenneth Tate to be his replacement. Reid mentors him for 2 years, retires to become the secondary coach, and Tate picks up the excellence...
The kid is a BEAST who played out of position at LB for the last 2 years under the idiot edsall. He will be the steal of this year's class, and Ozzie, I am giving you the early head's up.
Local kid, pollard-like hitter with decent closing speed and a nose for the ball.....
Shouldn't there be another option? Something like "It depends on the price". I would not dismiss out of hand the signing of Reed. I also would not pay him top safety in the league money which is what he always appears to be after. I'd love to have him retire as a Raven but not at the expense of cap hell.
Yes, a third option of the right price would be my preference as well. Wouldn't it be beautiful if Omar Brown could take the spot in a few years. I love to see undrafted players make good, go Ellerbee!
agreed price/cap money is everything here
It's time to move on he's done.
Invest that money into younger players who at least have the potential to get better unlike Reed,Lewis and Birk who will only continue to decline.Contracts based on past glory will keep them from being successful in the future.Gotta let go.Lewis and Reed simply are not the players they once were and they will never be again. If they want to keep them around make them assistant coaches.
For the love of God no!
Re-sign him if he wants to play here.
Ed Reed is virtually useless to this team and has been for weeks. He's chronically injured, refuses to tackle anyone in the open field other than an occasional "unnecessary roughness" hit and doesn't even pick passes off anymore. So what good is he? I know some people have stated the opinion that he's still vital because offensive coaches have to plan for him. So what? My guess is they're planning on exploiting his non-existent tackling. He's had a great career but it's time to move on. Same with Lewis. They're both chewing up way too much of the cap.
I get your point and I know this is a little bit of a slow period but now that we're in the playoffs shouldn't this topic wait until the off season? I'm hoping that Reed and Lewis find the fountain of youth and lead us to the super bowl. Now's the time to talk about banshees and festivus maximus. We have all off season to talk about getting rid of players. We're Ravens fans, we don't want to start sounding like some of these other loser fans out there.
As a fan it honestly saddens me to watch Ed and Ray go stumbling into mediocrity.Seeing backs plow over Ray or him trailing 5 yards behind a receiver because he no longer has the speed to keep up and Ed constantly getting beat over the top because he has to cheat up on the plays to compensate for his deteriorating speed (and body) is just depressing.Out of loyalty and respect as long as either of them are on the team Harbaugh will insist on them starting regardless of how badly their play may be.
I think a sizable percentage of the fanbase has a difficult time letting go of the past and unfortunately the FO will more than likely appease them and keep around players like Ed and Ray and probably even Birk if he's willing to come back. This is a move that will come back and hurt the team down the road.
Lets win it all and give Ray and Ed the chance to retire on top.
