This meager pay raise also includes a modest increase for those in the armed service. Should they be denied? I don't think so.

The people that shouldn't get a raise are the do nothing's in Congress. Really, what do these bumps on the log do for this Country? If anything, they should be giving their salaries back to the Treasury.

slapshot, I was talking about the increase to congress, not our armed forces.

This pay raise will cost us a grand total of less than $500,000 for Congress.

We sure do love our indignant symbolism, don't we?

Based on their dismal performance, Congress should take a pay cut. But, alas, that would be out of the question!

Right, but we could save 1.5 trillion dollars over several decades cutting the F-35 program, or a bunch of other huge cuts in the 10s or 100s of millions, billions, or even trillions. but we're talking about $500,000. DARPA spent $100,000 on their workshop asking whether Klingons would believe in Jesus too.

But the Executive Order ties them all together.

Wake me up when you actually know what you're talking about.

Fact is, you didn't even read it. Fact is, you didn't even know it included raises to our Armed Service personnel. Fact is, you spouted off your big mouth before knowing any of the specifics.

Who's going to separate an Executive Order? Congress? You? LOL. Learn something before opening your trap.

"Executive orders have the full force of law,[1] since issuances are typically made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress, some of which specifically delegate to the President some degree of discretionary power (delegated legislation), or are believed to take authority from a power granted directly to the Executive by the Constitution."

Understood, but Obama could have easily had an Executive Order that didn't tie them all together. Almost half of congress are in the millionares club. I'm not anxious to help them out. I think it was a bad move on Obama's part, but he can fall back on the same argument that you present.

I think it's 100% unnecessary to give congress a raise.

If nothing else, it's symbolic. Possible good will? Who knows? He loses nothing from his action.

I do think it's a good will gesture. Since some of them will be getting tax hikes, this will make it a little bit easier on their wallets.

If you really think about it though, Obama is using tax payer money for this good will gesture. Congress isn't going to care, but I think it's bad form when we're in the midst of hard times.

Every single campaign promise Obama made was going to use taxpayer money. I don't like the idea he can use my money to secure his job.

So typical to tie a pay raise for our do nothing elected officials to a raise the our military members and then dare someone not to vote for it. Kind of like this recent fiscal cliff bill the senate passed which also includes an unemployment extension for the long term unemployed. Now the Democrats are just daring the House Republicans not to pass it. Despicable!

At least those workers are producing something. And the F-35 is one badass aircraft!

How does the President usually pay for things?

    Out of his own pocket?

One bad-*** aircraft that isn't fully functionable, and is about 10x over budget.

You seem real serious about the budget.
